 "Abide in Me"

Christ tells us in John 15:4 to "abide in Me". My question is this: what is the depth of meaning in these words spoken to us by Him? How is the assuredness of our abiding made known to us? Sometimes for me, dealing with the everyday practicalities of life, causes me to question whether I am actually abiding in Jesus or not. By faith I say that I am; but am I? Thank you for your thoughts....

 Re: "Abide in Me"

Dear Judy,
When Jesus says 'Abide in Me' ...this is what I see, prayerfully looking through the Eyes of The Spirit,..

When Jesus came to bring forth God' Word,He shed EVERTHING of the flesh, and wanted us to SEE / HEAR The Words from His Father,God.
But,I believe many may want to look past The Word, that He is saying to us,..through The Word and through the Spirit, and see the man, without
The Word, maybe because of blindness,or maybe because with The Word,
comes obligation to The Word. ( We cannot have Jesus, and not have The Word of God that He speaks)

So,when I see,"Abide in ME".....'ME' , I see ME: Jesus / Word,...that He wants me to abide in.

Paul said," For as many as are led by the Spirit of God,They are the
Son / children of God."

Through the Grace of God,..He draws and helps us to His will,...
through The Holy Spirit,He brings up words in us to guide us in the Ways of righteousness....

Seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness,..is seeking The King,
who is Jesus, and like Paul's asking,"What would thou have for me to do,
Lord ?

Sending in the most loving way,

 Re:

I had to read your reply fully concentrating on each and every word, one word at a time so I wouldn't miss any of your insight. I did this three(!) times at a pretty slow pace. On the third time around, I saw the "Me"/Word practically jump off the page at me! Wow! what a revelation! In a flash..I saw it! Thank you Elizaabeth.
May you also be as blessed as I was!~

 Re:

It is drawing your strength from Jesus as a branch from the vine, and bear fruit as a result.
It is meditating on his law day and night.
It is learning to turn to him when you are in any trouble.

Psalm 119:11New International Version (NIV)

11 I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.

I think the whole psalm 119 has to do with it.
Thank you for bringing up this topic.

Edited to add: I forgot about the practical application: Drawing strength from him needs situations that we can't handle alone. When we pray/meditate on his word He reveals more of his will to us and when we start to do it, we realize that we need more strength....

Having His Spirit indwelling us is the most beautiful thing we can experience in this life. We have been joined to Christ and are one spirit with Him.

Rom 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

As being joined to Him, we experience His guidance, comfort, joy, compassion, mercy and love. Things you never experienced before you knew Jesus you are now experiencing. And don't forget the peace that passes understanding. Peace in circumstances that are causing such consternation and anxiety to people and yet in the midst of all these storms we have peace if,if, if, we abide in Christ.

I am just scratching the surface. There are so many "witnesses of His Spirit" that He gives us. These spiritual manifestations are often missing when we are far from Christ.
