 Re:

Bro. Bear,

Could we take a thought back in tiime,....
When The Lord first began to DRAW us,..deal with us about our sins ?
That STRONG,Devine power, that was drawing us to His will,...His Way.
How we changed as He would show us what was not of Him,in our life ?

That was Grace.
And,how long did this Grace continue,...when or if we stopped
listening / being persuaded by His Grace,...

We know that Grace is unmerited favor,....we did / do not deserve it,...butHe is merciful, and would lnot have any one of us to perish.

Grace: "The Devine influence upon the heart,...and it's reflection in the LIFE.

This Grace was so FULL in Jesus, that He did only His Faters will.Did not sin.
How strong is this Grace working in us ?

Lord,Please give us MORE of Your Grace !
( He was full of Grace and Truth)

In the love of our God,always,

 Re: Elisabeth

Dear sister so agree with your insight. Always a blessing to read your posts as they seem to come from the fragrance of Jesus Himself.

I have been maintaining a devotional thread called Of The Persecuted. My sister if you feel so inclined please feel free to comment on on it. I try to reflect the reality of our persecuted brothers and sisters. There are times I feel the fragrance of Christ is on that thread. When I read your post I sense the same thing.

 Re: Is Grace a Person?

Quote:

Yes, in the sense that the gospel of grace is the gospel of Jesus (Acts 20:24, 2 Th 1:8). All the blessings of God come to us by grace alone and all of them are found in Jesus.

But a better question is, why does it matter? It matters because if we define grace as something other than Jesus – a concept, a doctrine, a teaching – we diminish it. We put it in a little box and tell ourselves, “That’s grace, I have it all figured out.”

The problem is your grace-in-a-box won’t change you. It won’t lift you up, give you aid, or help you overcome sin. But Jesus will! This is why I say grace is a Person and his name is Jesus.

Amen tuc!!

God communicated early to us (in Genesis) that He would be our sufficiency in all things. Everything we need will only be found in Him, can only be found in Him. He alone would be our all in all. He does not hand out commodities, trinkets, get well cards, get out of jail coupons. GRACE, LOVE, TRUTH, etc. is a PERSON. HE is the gracious One. God is LOVE. Jesus is Truth.

In the OT Testament, God communicates this to us, many, many times. And Jesus continues with it (Bread of Life, Door, Water of life, etc), drawing ourselves to Him, not to something detached from Him.

Gen 15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

Here is a sampling of over 900 names/attributes of God.

Adonai-Jehovah -- The Lord our Sovereign
El-Elyon -- The Lord Most High
El-Olam -- The Everlasting God
El-Shaddai -- The God Who is Sufficient for the Needs of His People
Jehovah-Elohim -- The Eternal Creator
Jehovah-Jireh -- The Lord our Provider
Jehovah-Nissi -- The Lord our Banner
Jehovah-Ropheka -- The Lord our Healer
Jehovah-Shalom -- The Lord our Peace
Jehovah-Tsidkenu -- The Lord our Righteousness
Jehovah-Mekaddishkem -- The Lord our Sanctifier
Jehovah-Sabaoth -- The Lord of Hosts
Jehovah-Shammah -- The Lord is Present
Jehovah-Rohi -- The Lord our Shepherd
Jehovah-Hoseenu -- The Lord our Maker
Jehovah-Eloheenu -- The Lord our God

Notice the names of God describe something about His nature/character/attributes. Jesus wants us to come to Him for everything, for apart from Him there is nothing that can help us.

 Re:

I know this is a full thread, but I wanted to make a few more comments on this documentary. It is very long. Probably still needs some editing. Full of excellent information and many scriptures which really bring clarity to the plate.

It seemed that some of the men in the documentary, from what snippets there were, were completely off the wall. (John Crowder, for instance.) If anyone is listening to that man it almost has to be a joke, for he reminds me of a very bad comedian.A couple others were decidedly wolves in sheep's clothing and sometimes it wasn't clear what their names were. It wasn't healthy even listening to them.

Putting sound and honorable men like Eric Ludy, David Ravenhill and Dr. Michael Brown in the same film with some of these very unsound men seemed like an insult to our integrity.

Other men, like Phillip Yancey and Joseph Prince seem to be deceived in the area of grace, and we must pray for men like these to come back to the biblical meaning of grace.

There is such a mixture of unsound teaching in churches that it is going to take a mighty move of the Holy Spirit to get us back on track!

Well, that is my 2 cents worth. I can't say I watched the whole 3 hours glued to the screen. I was doing a cleaning job, but when I would hear Eric Ludy, David Ravenhill or Michael Brown or hear the scriptures being read, I would come and sit and listen with rapt attention. Truth draws. False doctrine repels!

We have all been under some bad teaching or mixture in Christendom and truly need to repent of it as we sometimes put men's teaching above scripture. Sure does get you to go to the source, the Bible and the Holy Spirit!!!!

Seeking His Truth Alone,
Sis Les

Brethren,

I trust that everyone participating or reading this thread has taken the 3 hour time to watch the documentary:

HYPER GRACE Documentary (feat. Dr. Michael Brown, David Ravenhill and Eric Ludy)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtRVWeoNuvw

That should be our starting place in allowing these godly men to speak to us on this subject and perhaps we can gear more of our responses to some of the issues scriptures and facets of hyper grace that they bring up in the film.

 Re:

For me this has its roots in how you understand the atonement and how man understands God. This is not a contract of law its a contract of relationship.

 Re:

QUOTE:
" why are people drawn to the hyper grace message?"

In our brotherhood it began with a besetting sin that bedeviled a brother.

We are battling this issue in our brotherhood now. For us it began with a brother what was troubled with moral failures - porn, beastility, adultery. He would make confessions, apologize and seem to be doing ok for a while and then relapse. They spent tons of money running to this counselor and that one and all over again with little improvement. All we saw was behavior modification and it was temporal, at best. He had local mentors where he was to give accountability...

This fellow would weep, cry in sorrow - or so it appeared to us. But victory was of short duration. The church ended up excommunicating him and shunning him as well. (You must realize this is an issue that has been going off and on for many years.) But the man is very religious, very. You could have a very interesting Bible discussion with him and feel blessed.

So, the problem is: is the fellow still saved even after practicing these sins? He says he is a sex addict....so, if the LORD would return, what would be his destination? The obvious answer is very unpleasant so one must modify, right?

This is my take on your question, Butters.

Sandra

Re: Insight from the calling of Moses by God

I would like to share an insight I gained yesterday at church.

Background: I taught the adult ladies SS class and the lesson was drawn from Exodus 3 where God appeared to Moses in the burning bush. God is calling Moses to deliver the Israelites, promising difficulty but enabling power to do so.

Forty years earlier Moses tried to deliver his people - read Exodus 2 - but failed miserably. Acts 7 (NASB) describes Moses thus:

22 “Moses was educated in all the learning of the Egyptians, and he was a man of power in words and deeds.

23 “But when he was approaching the age of forty, it entered his mind to visit his brethren, the sons of Israel.

24 “And when he saw one of them being treated unjustly, he defended him and took vengeance for the oppressed by striking down the Egyptian.

25 “And he supposed that his brethren understood that God was granting them deliverance through him, but they did not understand.

Notice: Moses was well educated, mighty in words and deeds, he had a goal he wanted to pursue. Some suggest he may have been groomed to assume leadership in the Egyptian gov...but he failed miserably, so bad he had to run for his life.

Forty years later God called him to this very task he desired to accomplish earlier but what did he tell God? I can not do it, I cannot speak (what happened to his speech skills?).....

But God says you go and I will be with you and you will accomplish it.

The difference was that earlier Moses was working to bring deliverance using his own skills. And he failed, miserably. But when God empowered him - call this grace - he could do it. God called him to do the unthinkable, the unusual, the difficult, the impossible. Acting out in obedience is faith in action, empowered by God.

Now I understood grace in a way I never did before.

Sandra

Re: HYPER GRACE Documentary: Now Available Online & YouTube

One day all our sins will surely be past.

2 Corinthians 5:10
English Standard Version
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.

All the debate over confession and lack of it sort of falls flat as preaching against men rather than preaching against sin. Please don't sin. God hates sin. Do you have faith in God? Faith is energized by love. Galatians 5:6. We, you, I need to show, to PROVE love for God by ceasing from sin.

While not listed in the Bible there is an old list called "The Seven Deadly Sins." They are :

Pride
Anger
Envy
Greed
Lust
Gluttony
Sloth

Perhaps we, you, I should do an inventory of the occurrences of these in the Scriptures. And then a personal inventory of the occurrences of them in our lives.

Andrew Murray wrote that humility is the chief virtue of the Lord Jesus. He wrote it in a book titled "Humility." If we seek for true Christ-like humility to be released by Christ in us we should go a long way in ceasing from all sins, the seven above and the host of "lesser" evils.

True repentance will produce the good fruits of good actions and not just theological discussion.

Jas 1:23  For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror.
Jas 1:24  For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like.
Jas 1:25  But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.
Jas 1:26  If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless.
Jas 1:27  Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

Galatians 5
The Message
Verses 4-6 I suspect you would never intend this, but this is what happens. When you attempt to live by your own religious plans and projects, you are cut off from Christ, you fall out of grace. Meanwhile we expectantly wait for a satisfying relationship with the Spirit. For in Christ, neither our most conscientious religion nor disregard of religion amounts to anything. What matters is something far more interior: faith expressed in love.

13-15 It is absolutely clear that God has called you to a free life. Just make sure that you don’t use this freedom as an excuse to do whatever you want to do and destroy your freedom. Rather, use your freedom to serve one another in love; that’s how freedom grows. For everything we know about God’s Word is summed up in a single sentence: Love others as you love yourself. That’s an act of true freedom. If you bite and ravage each other, watch out—in no time at all you will be annihilating each other, and where will your precious freedom be then?

16-18 My counsel is this: Live freely, animated and motivated by God’s Spirit. Then you won’t feed the compulsions of selfishness. For there is a root of sinful self-interest in us that is at odds with a free spirit, just as the free spirit is incompatible with selfishness. These two ways of life are contrary to each other, so that you cannot live at times one way and at times another way according to how you feel on any given day. Why don’t you choose to be led by the Spirit and so escape the erratic compulsions of a law-dominated existence?

Almost every faultfindig heresy hunting expedition ends in some form of legalism and new heresy being laid down by those pursuing the faults of men.
