Ampanang of IndonesiaAlthough most Ampanang live beside rivers, there are also those who live in areas far from any river. The Ampanang culture is intertwined with belief in unseen spirits. Generally the Ampanang people are followers of traditional Dayak beliefs, called Kaharingan. In addition, some are followers of Nyuli belief. The focus of Nyuli teaching is that there is a resurrection after death. Each Ampanang family has a place of worship for their ancestors in their house.Ministry ObstaclesWith altars in each home, it may be difficult for the Ampanang to conceive of any path to worship of the True God than what they have learned since birth.Outreach IdeasIt is reported the Ampanang people are experiencing a new openness to outsiders. Pray this will open the door to consideration of the Good News of Jesus Christ.Pray for the followers of ChristPray God will be preparing the men and women of peace who will recognize the truth when the gospel is introduced.Pray for the entire people groupThe Ampanang need formal education and skills development in order to face the changes they are experiencing. Sufficient education and skill improvement can help them rise above poverty.
