Bisaya, Sabah Bisaya of Malaysia The Bisaya are an indigenous people of the northwest and the coast line of Borneo, Malaysia. Bisayas' indigenous people settled in Borneo thousands of years ago. The traditional musical instruments consist of Kulintangan, gong, and many small gongs. "It is as if somebody just beats the gong and everyone - men, women, young, and old - just starts to dance." Most Bisaya are Muslims, but usually mixed with traditional religions. The dukun, or herbalist-curer, acts as a witch doctor. A spirit medium uses trances at public ceremonies to cure people.
Ministry Obstacles Spiritual opposition will be encountered as Jesus Christ is presented to this Muslim / Animist people. Pray against this.
Outreach Ideas There are quite a number of evangelical Christians in Malaysia. Please pray that some will be given an interest in and a burden for the Bisaya people. Pray the Lord will lead them to share Christ with the Bisaya, and will remain to disciple them.
Pray for the followers of Christ There may be a few Christians among the Bisaya people today, but even this much is not certain. Pray for those followers of Christ who will soon be coming to faith, that they will learn to be devoted to one another in brotherly love.
Pray for the entire people group Pray all of the Bisaya tribe will be drawn away from worshipping created beings, and will be set free to worship the one and only Creator God.
