This is from a different forum but I wanted to share it here.quote: "Our youth pastors are bent on keeping kids in no matter the cost. My own kids refuse to go to Wednesday night youth group because it scares them. There are fights, drugs, knives, promescuity, and a disregard for adult authority. I have spoken to the Youth pastor many times about this, and he just says, "Well, at least they're at church!" I wrote and spoke about this very thing in the article and audio of "Brethren Beware". I have seen this in youth groups all over, and it's doing great damage! Many think that it is being helpful but it truly is harmful. "Bad company corrupts good habits". The message is based on 1Co 5:11 - "But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner--not even to eat with such a person." The "BRETHREN BEWARE" article can be found at: https://www.sermonindex.net/modules/articles/index.php?view=article&aid=4311 "In a day that is calling for unity, is there a place for separation? Is there a reason to the worldliness of the church? Why do many professing Christians sin so much? We tread on dangerous grounds, with dangerous people, during dangerous times so how should we guard ourselves?" Read this article to find the answers. Rather then going out to the lost, we try to make church appealing so they come to us. Therefore the focus of youth services is not on prayer meetings and bible studies, (then the lost wouldn't come), but are on video games and free food! Then those who are saved are being stuffed with candy when they need meat. If our churches start focusing on the things of God, the lost would stop coming. I can't buy into the seeker sensative teachings. I believe that we as believers should be sensative to seek the lost! The Church is supposed to be a place where Christians are being ministered to. The highways and the hedges are suppose to be the place where Christians minister to the lost. The seeker sensative model does not follow the model of the N. T. Church.
I agree Jesse. Church (organized gatherings for teaching, edification, fellowship and worship) is for believers. These congregations should be seeker "friendly", not seeker sensitive-----big difference. You are right, the church is for equipping the saints so we can "go out"........I was talking with a friend today who attends a seeker sensitive church and he was saying he hungers for a church that stands for SOMETHING---a church that isn't murky on every doctrine imaginable. Many of these churches won't take a position on many issues because they don't want to offend-----believers or non believers-----they're looking for numbers. Hard to sharpen and be sharpened with that type of mindset. Just my two cents. Blessings, Cindy :-)
