Text:Exodus 32v1 Text:Exodus 32v1 "And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, up make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him." GOOD NEWS BIBLE says: "...make us a god..."
This was a very crucial momment in the life of Aaron: the greatest challenge any man can encounter in life and ministry is to be confronted with this request: "make a god for us who would lead us." What they were saying in essence to Aaron is this: "come on, do something: it is your turn to show us God! "This is painful and depressing for Aaron. All along Aaron was, I believe, basking in the shadow and strength of his younger brother, Moses, and he was careless to "collect" God for himself.
If Aaron was in tune with the God of his fathers as Moses was, the situation would have been different. The people came and said to him "UP! " this word suggest to me that Aaron all these while was just sitting and enjoying the light and glory of Moses without breaking down and cry for an intimate relationship with God. So when Moses left the camp, it looks as if God has also left. To them, Moses went away with God. So the people confronted him and told him to stand up to the occasion.
It is a terrible thing for a people to stay without a deity. The people could not endure the absence of a higher being to lead them hence they came to Aaron for to show them God. Aaron could not because he had never being a man that personally knew God. Take it or leave, a time is coming when it would be our turn to show our generation God. Dwelling under the shadow of great servants of God is helpful but also implicative, when those men are no longer there, either because of death or transfer, men that knew us with them would come and request for God and His power.
Even now, are we not put to shame all the time when men come with pain, affliction and confusions all over their faces and we cannot do anything other than to give them false hope that is as false as a mirage? Intimacy with God should be our priority! This takes time to build, lets get to work! _________________ Emeka Joe Uzosike
