 Has the temple been rebuilt?

Acts 15:16-18
After those days I will return,
And I will rebuild the tabernackle of David which has fallen,
And I will rebuild its ruins,
And I will restore it,
So that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord,
And all the Gentiles who are called by My name,
Says the Lord,
Who makes these things known from long ago.

Ephesians 2:19-21
So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets. Christ Jesus Himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a "holy temple" in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.

1 Corithians 3:16
Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit if Gid dwells in you?

Certain streams of end times teaching say a millenial temple needs to be built in Jerusalem. Probably where the Dome of the Rock mosque sits.

The New Testament tells us the temple has already been built. It is the church, the body of Christ.

Re: The Temple has been Rebuilt

The rebuilt temple which many are looking forward to has come and gone.

History bears out the fulfillment of prophecy regarding the Temple being rebuilt.

The Temple built by Solomon was destroyed by King Nebuchadnezzar in 586 B.C. The Temple was then rebuilt as recorded in Ezra 6:13-15

"Then Tatnai governor on this side the river, Shethar-boznai, and their companions, according to that which Darius the king had sent, so they did speedily. And the elders of the Jews built, and they prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. And they built, and finished it, according to the commandment of the God of Israel, and according to the commandment of Cyrus, and Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia. And this house was finished on the third day of the month Adar, which was in the sixth year of the reign of Darius the king."

Its foundation was laid in April, 536 b.c. (Ezra 3:8-10), and it was completed on February 21, 515 b.c., being twenty-one years after it was begun [Lightfoot].

Daniel wrote his prophecy in chapter 9 before the above recorded by Ezra had taken place. Therefore, his prophecy in chapter 9, specifically in verse 26 referred to that rebuilt Temple which was desecrated by Antiochus
Epiphanes around 170 B.C. Herod restored this same temple which took forty-six years to accomplish. Jesus spoke of this Temple and prophesied its destruction.
Jesus' prophecy was fulfilled by Titus in 70AD when the Temple was destroyed.

There is no place in Scripture which gives us any indication of a third temple which is to be built.

Hebrews 9:11,12 But Christ being come a high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood; he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

We christians ought not to be looking for any rebuilt Temple. Yet many are teaching these things and many more believing them.

May God open the eyes of some as they search for Him and the Truth as it is in Jesus.

For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Re: The Temple has been Rebuilt

Amen, that is why Stephen was stoned to death, for preaching that God does not dwell in temples made by human hands. When Jesus predicted that the temple would be destroyed, He did not say it was God's desired will for another one to be rebuilt.

I would also ask, should we look forward to animal sacrifices once again being offered in the new temple in a literal 1,000 year reign? No brothers and sisters, Christ is the once-for-all sacrifice. There is no more need for any animal sacrifices; I would dare say that is borderline, if not fully blasphemous. Yet many are teaching these things and they are widely accepted by multitudes in Christendom today.

 Re:

The following comment is from a Jewish man speaking to a Christian man about Christ Jesus.

"Don't be so confident. The jesus of Christianity is anti-Torah anti-Yisrael and anti-Temple. Sounds like the ideal anti-Messiah to me. All "faith" and no Torah? Did not Yosef, David, Mosheh, and the prophets have great faith, and yet their lives were characterised by a deep passion for Torah? True faith CANNOT exist apart from Torah (HASHEM's Word and Truth). Re-examine your religion. Seek His Torah and His true Messiah--the Jewish one who will prove that His Word and His Torah stand. "If He is further successful in rebuilding Beit HaMikdash on its original site and gathering the dispersed of Yisrael, then His identity as the Mashiakh is certain." - The RAMBAM. Wise up christian."

Do you see the confidence which this man has? It is in the building of the third temple on the Dome of the Rock. He then says that Jesus of Nazareth is the anti-christ. He believes that Jesus is against the Torah, against Israel and against the temple. Then he confirms that Joseph, King David and Moses, as with all the prophets had great faith but that which characterised them was their "deep passion" for the Torah. Then he advises this Christian to re-examine his religion. To seek His (God's) true Torah and the true Messiah…..a Jewish one who will prove that His Word and His Torah stand. Then he quotes from another man and says "If He is further successful in rebuilding Beit HaMikdash on its original site and gathering the dispersed of Yisrael, then His identity as the Mashiakh is certain." In other words the one who will succeed in rebuilding the temple on the mount in Jerusalem and by that means draws Israel to it will prove himself to be the Messiah.

RAMBAM is an acronym for a man. His full Hebrew name is Rabbi Mosheh ben Maimon (Hebrew: רבי משה בן מימון‎), whose acronym forms "Rambam" (רמב"ם).

"Wise up christian" is a threat.

It is not without good reason that the third temple is of such importance. It has been in the thinking of the Diaspora throughout Europe for more than 800 years. Today thousands of men and women have committed themselves fully and whole heartily to its realisation. Does that make it a biblical prophetic reality? No! What the men of Israel do is not necessarily evidence of biblical reality. Yet for all that this thing is being done in the full visibility of the nations and it cannot be stopped and its purpose of itself is the evidence to many that the Messiah has come. Only the Holy Spirit can make of that a reality of understanding to those for whom this will be necessary. The rest is simply vanity.

 Re:

Kelly what makes such teaching erroneous to Christians is the reintroduction of sacrifices. There are elements of dispensational teachiing that imply Christians will be worshipping in the rebuilt temple during the thousand year reign of Christ. They will be offering animal sacrifices. If this be true. Then one should throw out the book of Hebrews and repudiate the ultimate sacrifice of Christ on the cross.

 Re:

I remember in a TV program, a secular historian observed that had not Herrod's temple been destroyed in 70 AD, the spread of Christianity might have been impeded.

I thought very profound observation by a secular historian.

Sister thank you for the historical background of the first two temples. It was very informative.

 Re:

Blaine there are almost endless vanities taught about the end times. I do not follow them personally. Neither do I have any strong views about eschatology. There is one certainty which is visible in Scripture which is that before the Lord returns the man of sin or (another) anti-christ will appear in Israel. Or to put it another way the Son of Perdition. As far as I am concerned the vanity lies in asserting "ideas" as though they were facts as far as actual events are concerned.

As for the specific concern which you mention, that of animal sacrifices in the millennium reign of Christ, I have only one thought on the matter. It does not include glorified believers entering into sacrifices, as such a claim if it were true would of necessity be ludicrous and in that context completely implausible. Such believers would be raised from the dead, have new bodies and the new life which they received to themselves throughout the ages would already be fully expressed and visible. They would already be heavenly so to suggest that believers in such a condition of perfection would need to participate in animal sacrifices for their own benefit would of course be madness as I say. Even as to do so today would be madness. Yet for a people who up until that very hour of the Lord and His kingdom come, their endurance in the kingdom will be tested. The Lord is not coming to reign with a rod of iron for nothing. Neither is the rebellion of men at the end of the kingdom a rebellion of men who has accepted the sacrifice of Messiah for their sins. Who really knows what the thing being learned by Israel and the Nations is, in the Kingdom of 1000 years? Does anyone know?

 Re:

When Jesus died, the veil in the earthly temple ripped in two from the top to bottom, signifying that the temple no longer held meaning. A temple for sacrifice today would be as useless as it was then, and it would not be the house of God.

Quote: Yet for all that this thing is being done in the full visibility of the nations and it cannot be stopped and its purpose of itself is the evidence to many that the Messiah has come. Only the Holy Spirit can make of that a reality of understanding to those for whom this will be necessary.

In this thread we have missed the point about the temple being re-built look at what Paul says: “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.” 2 Thessalonians 2:3–4

Let no man deceive the temple will be rebuilt and the man who will exalt himself above God will be found sitting in that temple, showing himself to be God.

Thats the point of the temple...
