"A sacred familiarity with the Divine Mind is the best inspiration for literature. Many an author, dead and forgotten, might have been alive in the world's memory today, only for lack of that quickening into greatness which comes of God's breath upon the soul. The world's teachers must first be God's learners. Wisdom does not grow out of books when students lock themselves in shut closets. The cloister must open outward to the world and upward to the heavens. The great wisdom is God's divinity and man's humanity. Who knows this, knows most of all, after this, what
remains to be learned is little. God first, man next; the rest are trifles."

Theodore Tilton.

"Adversity doesn't build character; it reveals it."

Not sure who said it, but I like it.

In Christ,
Jeremy Hulsey
"Truth without fire is dead. Fire without truth is deadly. God give us the Truth on Fire!"

 Re: Great Quotes

Love is the foundation of all obedience. Without it morality degenerates into mere casuistry. Love is the foundation of all knowledge. Without it
religion degenerates into a chattering about Moses and doctrines and theories; a thing that will neither kill nor make alive, that never gave life to a single soul or blessing to a single heart, and never put strength into any
hand in the conflict and strife of daily life.

Alexander Maclaren.

Re: An interesting insight into Spurgeon's Calvinism?

"If sinners be dammed, at least let them leap to Hell over our bodies.
If they will perish, let them perish with our arms about their knees.
Let no one go there unwarned and unprayed for."
Charles Spurgeon

 Re:

Knowing God without knowing our wretchedness leads to pride.
Knowing our wretchedness without knowing God leads to despair.
Knowing Christ gives the balance.
- Blaise Pascal

Christ always identified Himself with the least, the last, and the lost.
- Unknown

Quote:
"The end we ought to propose to ourselves is to become, in this life, the most perfect worshippers of God we can possibly be, as we hope to be through all eternity."
-Brother Lawrence

Its so wonderful how brother lawerence paints such a powerful picture of our purpose on earth. Let people look at us and think we are of no earthly good for 'our citizenship is in heaven'.

Quote:
"The more one knows God, the greater one desires to know Him. Knowledge is commonly the measure of love. The deeper and more extensive our knowledge, the greater is our love."
-Brother Lawrence

Our reading of scriptures should cataylst our relationship with God. For the Scriptures testify of Christ, let us come to Him to have life.

Quote:
"Let us think often that our only business in this life is to please God. Perhaps all besides is but folly and vanity."
-Brother Lawrence

'and find out what pleases the Lord.' - Ephesians 5:10

 Re: Great Quotes

The greatest need we have is not to do things, but to believe things.

 Re:

God's patience is infinite. Men, like small kettles, boil quickly with wrath at the least wrong. Not so God. If God were as wrathful, the world would have been a heap of ruins long ago.

... Sadhu Sundar Singh (1889-1929)
