Let us KEEP the Feast of Unleavened Bread!

Did we notice that Passover began last night? Millions of Jews around the world, some of them believers in Jesus of Nazareth as their Messiah, celebrated Passover last night and are currently observing the Feast of Unleavened bread. Their homes will be leaven free throughout the entire feast that will last 8 days.

Paul exhorted the believers in Corinth to keep this feast - "Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast, not with the old leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth."

We too are to keep this feast by purging out every leaven of the old carnal man which is being corrupted by deceitful lusts. We are to carefully purge ourselves of any leaven of malice and wickedness towards our fellow believers and all men. "Malice and wickedness" are broad terms for any attitude, thought, motive, or action, that would harm others or hinder the bond of love through which hearts are to be knit together. Love does "no harm" to its neighbor - this is why love is the bond of perfection and the fulfillment of the law.

Peter and Paul were unified in calling all believers to "rid themselves" of every carnal leaven that would corrupt the pure and sincere love that bonds men's hearts together in the unity of the Spirit.

Peter wrote: "Therefore, putting away all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes crave pure spiritual milk." "Seeing that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth through the Spirit unto un-hypocritical brotherly love, love one another fervently with a pure heart."

Paul added: "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice." "But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him."

These leavens from the old man, corrupt both the carriers and all others who they will infect. All of these carnal leavens, pollute the bond of love, and hinder the unity of the Spirit. If allowed to spread, they will grieve the Spirit of God by which we were sealed for the day of redemption. None of these leavens should be found in believers who are seeking to keep the feast.

Believers who dwell together in the name of Jesus are being built into a spiritual house of living stones where the Lord desires to dwell. Together, we become the temple of the Lord, and the Lord's will is that His temple be completely pure and holy. He will not dwell in His temple if it becomes defiled. That is why Paul warned - "Do you not know that all of you are the temple of the Lord, and that the Spirit of God dwells among you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple all of you are."

Therefore, "Let US keep the feast" and quickly and thoroughly rid ourselves of every carnal leaven that corrupts the pure unity of the Spirit in the bond of love. The pure in heart shall see God, and the purified temple shall be filled with the presence of God.

Re: Let us KEEP the Feast of Unleavened Bread!

I have been keeping the Feast of Unleavened Bread and Passover for 28 years now. My wife, even longer. As you so nicely pointed out in your post, the days are rich in symbolism lessons to be learned.

Thanks for sharing.
James
