Created for Good Works in Christ

Jesus did mighty works. Jesus healed. Jesus fed. Jesus took dominion over wind and water. Paul told the Thessalonians that he labored night and day. Jesus worked. Paul worked. Jesus and Paul are examples for us.

Ephesians tells us that we are his workmanship created in Christ to do good works. The Epistle to Titus includes calls to good works. Do we quibble with what the Scripture teaches or do we delight in it and obey it?

Jesus gave direction to strive to enter at the narrow gate (Luke 13). We do well to respond and call upon others to strive also for the same purpose.

Paul told the Corinthians to be always abounding in the work of the Lord (1 Corinthians 15:58). As I have read this, I wanted to do this.

Jesus spoke about a reward according to works in texts that include Matthew 16:27 and Revelation 22:12. There can be multiple levels of motivation but Jesus wants us to know about rewards.

If we love God, do we not pray for his will to be done (as in the Lord’s Prayer)?

Is it not the delight of many to serve God? Should not all use their gifts in serving God? Is it not a delight to work for God? Do we forget William Carey's motto: Attempt great things for God; Expect great things from God.

This gospel of the kingdom must be preached as a witness to all the nations and then the end shall come (Matthew 24) Please support work that advances this outcome.

I think of these lyrics from Keith Green (1953-1982):

If you love the Lord, you will love His will for you…
And if you love the Lord, you will love His Holy Commands…
We are His workmanship, created for good works in Christ…

Re: Created for Good Works in Christ

Women have a particular call to good works in the Scripture:

"...that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works."

(1 Timothy 2:9-10)
