 Essential Criteria for Ministry

What are they?

Looking like a nice person, and going to church.

Ok, so I'm being sarcastic, but truth is stranger than fiction.

My daughter, who is 20, went from work to buy her lunch. While she was waiting, the person who was serving her said she looked like a nice person and did she go to church.

She said yes.

He then asked if she would like to work with the children at his church.

She phoned me and told me about this. I said to her, 'He doesn't even know you!', which he doesn't.

Did he ask if she was a Christian? Did he ask if she prays or reads the Bible? Is that not a need anymore?

I mean, this is nothing new. Churches advertise for musicians etc. So why not ask someone who looks nice?

What do you suppose God has to say about this?

His word tells us, so let's obey it.

God bless.

Well, Enid, your daughter must have looked a lot nicer then some that say they are Christians but look like children of the devil...

Just saying...dressing nicely demonstrates self-respect and respect for your fellow men. When self-respect is lost through over-indulgence in sin you will dress to reflect this loss. (Dressing nicely is not the same as dressing provocatively.)

I think I hear him say, "Depart from me ye workers of iniquity." Or, something similar. Now if they repent, that is a whole new ballgame. [EDIT] The rules are different.

 Re:

Ginnyrose,

Concerning her clothing, she was wearing a pair of black trousers and a polo shirt, and her coat. That is the standard workwear for her place of work.

But it is tragic what is acceptable in churches nowadays.

God's ways are higher than ours, and His thoughts higher than ours also.

We might accept it, but that does not mean He does.

 Re:

hi, a nursery worker can be a hireling and so can a watcher of toddlers.let us not jump to too many conclusions. God does not care what a person wears to church... when the Jesus freaks, out of the hippie era showed up at our church in all manner of dress and lack of dress, we accepted them as they came.girls without any undergarments ,men in robes and sandals ...weird to the max... i asked the lady in charge of teaching womens sunday school who was a wise established christian woman what we should do about this she said we are going to love them and preach the gospel and allow the Holy Spirit to change them. within one year and many secret marriage ceremonies, they started to look like holiness folks. when the Holy Spirit does a job it gets done.jimp

Haha. This brings to mind something that pastor Dave wilkerson said:

"Her face was saved."

 Re:

Nice response Jimp about accepting people, I looked down a little further and noticed a comment on unsuitable garments so thought to drop in my two pennethworth.

A couple of times I have asked with one of the female leaders to accompany me to ask the girls to not wear attire that is alluring. in one instance it was a pair of black velvet skin tight shorts on a beautiful girl. It was just not fair on us guys.

A gently request can be done in a loving and careful way that is not legalistic and preserves the dignity of the individual. Sorry if i have missed the point of this thread however I responded as a stumblling block is different to a cultural issue.

Kindest regards Oskar.
