| Re: 1912 Titanic Sinking and The Will of God | | In Aug. 2011 we visited the Titanic museum at Pigeon Forge, TN. It was very interesting; I highly recommend any and all to visit there but do it with no time restraints. Take your time, read, study, observing what you see.
Anyhow...
We learned a few things that led to the sinking of the Titanic. These things are common to human logic, reasoning. It is failures that 'sink' a lot of ....
People were over-confident in their boat: it was unsinkable. Precautions, common sense were ignored. There were warnings before they ever left England. Consider: the rivets that held the plates - made of inferior metal - they snapped when they got too cold; not enough life boats on board; there was a fire smoldering in the hold where the coal was stored - this started before they set sail from England. There were other ships in the area at the time the Titanic sunk: when they were given the warnings of the presence of icebergs in the area, they stopped, not so with the Titanic.
There were warnings all over the place. The captain should have taken the common precautions, listened and acted accordingly - others did but not him.
Consider hurricanes. People know they are coming. They know they will be out of power but what will they do? Sit and do nothing but when disaster strikes they are all in a wad angry at the gov because they have no food or water. On the other hand, wise people either stocked up on food, water, made provisions to camp out in their home for several weeks OR they left the area after securing their homes.
All of these remind me of how people are preparing for the second coming of Christ. They know it will happen but refuse to make the necessary preparations. When this happens it will be nobody's fault but their own if they fail to take the precautions, preparations.
Observing human responses to impeding natural disasters are very revealing of human nature. These failures to make preparations are nothing new - Jesus used a similar example when he used the story of the ten virgins - five were wise and five were foolish. People have not changed any since, have they? _________________ Sandra Miller

my reply:I was very interested in learning about the Titanic and found the history of the sinking to be very interesting. There were sadly a number of mistakes made and I think combined together they resulted in such a large loss of life and the sinking of the ship. Discovery had some very interesting documentaries they aired back in April about the sinking of Titanic because it was the hundred year anniversary

my reply: I have been thinking about this much over the past week. The warnings for this storm by many weather bloggers went out a full five days before the storm even hit. Many of them kept saying that it was going to be really bad storm but some government officials in some areas ignored things and that made it more difficult for areas like NYC. I don't know why people chose to stay, it may be like you said over confident. Perhaps some did not have the true understanding of how fragile life is or how dangerous this storm was going to be?? It interesting how little decisions we make every day change our lives in ways we could never imagine. I think for those who did not prepare before the storm there is a warning and message that they can take away from what happened. The thing though that struck me most is some of the way the elderly have been treated through this storm recovery process. So many elderly who should have children helping to take care of them seem forgotten and I really think that speaks volumes to were we are as a nation.
I have also thought about how short life is, how quickly one can be called to give an account and what then? No one will have an excuse of "I didn't know or I wasn't told" I take to heart the admonishing Jesus gives us in the scripture to live every day in HIM so that you will be found ready. As it says in James 4:14 "14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away."
People have not changed although I sometimes think I am observing a higher degree of selfishness and self contentedness in many among the younger generations. There is an attitude of I will do what ever I want to do with out regard to how it effects others around them.
Thanks for the interesting thread and discussion.

| Re: 1912 Titanic Sinking and The Will of God | | The Titanic sank in 1912, one year before the Federal Reserve (the private bankers who make and control our money) got their charter through the Federal Reserve Act of 1913. J.P. Morgan owned the company that built and ran the Titanic. J.P. Morgan if you don't already know was the wealthiest banker of the time in the U.S. The Federal Reserve Act was secretly written by a cabal of wealthy bankers and submitted as legislation. J.P. Morgan and the other bankers desperately wanted the bill to pass but did not want the press or people at large to know that the bankers behind it because that would lessen the chances of its passage. There were wealthy Americans who were very much against the Federal Reserve Act such as John Jacob Astor. When the Titanic was to sail on its maiden voyage, J.P. Morgan invited Astor and Guggenheim to sail across the Atlantic on it. J.P. Morgan himself was booked and ticketed to be on that maiden voyage. He cancelled at the last minute. He also took valuables off the boat before it set "sail". The Titanic set sail and traversed iceberg laden waters going full steam at night. Can you say fool-hardy! The boat sank and poor John Jacob Astor passed away (the life boats were women and children only). The Federal Reserve Act was passed the next year in 1913.

| Re: | | There is one exhibit at this museum that a body will likely never forget.
There was a room, perhaps 35'x20', that mimicked the weather at the time of the Titanic sinking. It was dark, stars shining, clear night. (Yes, they had what appeared to be stars shining on the ceiling - made you feel like you were outdoors.) It was cold in the room - same temp it was when the ship sunk. A large water tank ran along the long side of the room filled with water that was the temp of the seawater. You were encouraged to put your hand(s) in the water, get a feel what this water felt like to the victims. It was bitterly cold, oh! so cold. I do not think a human body would have lasted very long before expiring in that COLD water - I think it was 28 degrees.
Visitors did not stay in that room long...
AND did you all know the Titanic had a sister ship that sailed for years but then retired in the 30s? I think it was a mere 4 inches shorter then the Titanic.
Studying what all went wrong there provides one with powerful lessons on the limitations of human reasoning and nature. _________________ Sandra Miller

I imagine it would be very difficult to stay in that room for to long. I have watched several well done reenactments from national geographic also and they always leave me feeling the tragedy of it all. The history of the Titanic is so interesting to me. I was reading about the radio man that night and how he was so busy trying to send frivolous messages for passengers that he actually told the California's(another ship in the area) short wave operator to shut up so he could send his messages off. The California was trying to warn them about ice in the area and the radio operator kept on sending messages for the passengers instead. Such a simple unimportant choice to make, or so at least it would seem on the surface that it was and yet look at what happened because of it...of course it should be noted that after they hit the ice burg that same radio operator stayed at his post sending out urgent pleas for help until the ship went down. He worked faithfully to try to get the message out to others ships in the area that they were sinking.
Krispy how was your move. You should make a thread and post would love to hear about your adventure:)
