adelphos,
I have had similar thoughts and the prayer of my heart has been to walk out that which God has given me light on and so my thoughts about this has led me to study today.
I hope that you will find some encouragement in my personal study, as I have been encouraged by your honesty.
His mercy is incredible.
I am reminded that satan had great knowledge but did not walk in the knowledge.
1 John 2:6 "He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked."
and
"But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves."
(1 Co.8;1) (Eph.3:18) (Phil 1:9) (rom 8:29)
2 Peter 1:2 "Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the *knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord*, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the *knowledge of Him* who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust."
"But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to *knowledge* self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ."
Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. Mark 8:34
Romans 12 says that we are to be a living sacrifice and that we are conformed by the renewing of our minds (which comes from the knowledge of God)
I read that knowledge must always accompany the love of God. They are always together in these passages.
So... To be offer myself as a sacrifice I believe, is to take up my cross... and to take up my cross is to deny my own will(which is following in Jesus' footsteps) and allow the knowledge that God gives me to be put into my daily walk and talk and plant it deep in my heart, rooting out everything that I become aware of that is displeasing to God. In this way, I will be a vessel of honor *that the Lord has filled with His love and ready for His purpose.
