| A Biblical Alternative To The Sinner's Prayer by Paul Washer | | Thanks so much for posting this video: https://www.sermonindex.net/modules/myvideo/photo.php?lid=2443
I have always found evangelism difficult, in that I have never felt comfortable with the way that I've seen it done through the years. Although that was the type of "evangelism" I saw all of my life, I never have felt right about trying to get people into a "decision for Christ" for the very reasons that Paul Washer brings out in this video.
Now that I have been preaching more, in the last few years, I do it like Brother Washer: I simply preach the gospel and leave it with them. I tell them that if they ever want to pray and seek God, I am always available.
I don't want the blood of anyone on my hands for having led them to a "decision" that was not prompted by the Holy Ghost from inside their own hearts! If He is not involved, there is no real salvation. _________________ Michael Strickland

| Re: | | Bump again!
If any man would come after Me, let him first deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.
The gospel preached to them did not profit, not being mixed with faith.
I remember a Bible study I was teaching one evening. A homeless couple came into the meeting. The lady was very drunk. I taught and even talked to this couple about salvation. But, I did not "lead them in a sinner's prayer". Another woman who was at the study became very angry with me and actually offended. She chastised me because I did not lead the drunk lady in a sinner's prayer. I could not make her to understand that a drunk woman simply repeating words with no faith or no desire to follow Christ would do no good. Christians are Christ followers, and to follow Him we must give ourselves to Him and receive the forgiveness by faith that He so freely offers.

| Re: | | Better to lead a drunk person to a decision that they will not remember the next morning than to lead one who has all their faculties about them into a false assurance. |

| Re: | | Sorry to be so invasive to the thread but at 7 minutes on the video Paul speaks to "Trusting in a decision, and living in ungodliness".
Since he does refer to the Bible Belt, It would be incautious to neglect the great number of those, in contrast to the above statement, who trust in a decision and then as a next step, take upon a great many disciplines which help them to clean up their outside man. In this state they blend well in a religious grouping and in that atmosphere, whether large church or small, they can linger till death in their decision secured false salvation. |

| Re: | | Brothergary, I don't know which sermon this is taken from. PW does speak to regeneration more than anyone else I have listened to. Sermons such as: Examine yourself, regeneration, how do I know i'm saved, are you saved, (tests of) genuine conversion, truth in evangelism, modern american christianity, genuine gospel, and these are but a few. Hope someone can specifically direct you to what you are looking for. |

| Re: | | Please be patient with me my brothers and sisters as I am not attempting to keep a thread extending beyond its usable length, but my spirit will not let me keep silent. I will one day meet PW in heaven and thank Christ for using a broken vessel llke him for my salvation. I knew nothing of PW until I pulled up a sermon of his and heard him speaking what I perceived as legalism (great clue). I would not listen to him for another 6 months until one night, suffering difficult marital problems, I was searching the internet for something to listen to. Strangely, I gave this guy another try when I saw he had a multipart lesson on marriage. Not what I was looking for but I started to listen none the less. What was being presented was the Sovereignty of God vs. what I thought he would be speaking to; marriage. Minutes in, God chose to show Himself. Shortly after, He showed me who I was. Life will never be the same thank God. Had this not happened I would still be sitting in church Sunday after Sunday, doing a great many works, growing in knowledge, and thinking myself secure in where I sat and one day winding up in Hell. |
