God needs people who are persistent in prayer like the Canaanite woman who refused to be put off. He is waiting for people who, even on first receiving a stone instead of bread, nevertheless persevere and take God at His word.

Jesus once asked, ‘What man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?’ No true father would! So say to your heavenly Father, ‘You will never give me a stone when I ask for something!’ In response to such a humble prayer God will turn the stone — even were it already in your hands — into bread. He stands by His word.
