 GRACE is NOT just Mercy

That we might grow in Grace

Grace charis from Strongs 5485
graciousness (as gratifying), of manner or act (abstract or concrete; literal, figurative or spiritual; especially the divine influence upon the heart, and its reflection in the life;

“especially the divine influence on the heart, and it’s reflection in the life”

This is the working definition of Grace, Grace is not JUST “mercy” or “unmerited favor” as so many usually say and believe. Yes, mercy is part of grace and unmerited favor is part of grace but Grace is much greater and more alive than this. How is this?

Grace teaches us.

Titus 2:11,12 ¶ For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

Grace is a teacher for a changed life.

See the “Divine influence upon the heart and it’s reflection out into our lives?

1Pe 4:10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

The grace of God has “many folds” to it.

The Holy Spirit, "divine influnce on the heart"

The Word of God,scriptures."divine influence on the heart"

Words of Grace spoken by us or others."Divine influnce"

Acts of grace by us or others."Divine influence on the heart"

Preaching of the word conveys grace. "Divine influence on the heart and it's reflection into the life or lives"

Col 4:6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
(KJV)

Let your speech always have,”Divine influence upon the heart and it’s reflection out into our lives.”

Heb 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

This is just a primer for really understanding the grace of God. In the New Testament alone the word grace appears one hundred and seventeen times,(KJV.)

Re: GRACE is NOT just Mercy

I personally see almost every doctrine of the bible to have 2 sides to it.

Grace is firstly Mercy. and on the other side it is the power to do.

So then a bible verse like (Hebrews 4:16) makes sense:

"Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."

mercy is firstly needed. And then in this context grace is soley the power of God on our behalf to do His will in a circumstance.

This is a great subject and doctrine to be balanced and understand both sides of the coin. Yet let us not go so far to make every verse of scripture then be about "doing" and "overcoming". Christianity as a faith begins not with "doing" but resting in the work of Christ on the cross. That is grace chiefly.

 Re:

Very good. Now while we can speak of the "doctrine of grace" Some who may be reading might see doctrine as negative. Well Paul warns us to not depart from sound doctrine. So doctrine is good so long as it is Christ and the apostles doctrine and not mens traditions. As another thread on phariseeism speaks of.

1Ti 1:2 Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.

So now a bit deeper on Grace.

Grace is really literaly life and light eternal! in us..who are born again. It is te only way to be saved...by GRACE!
The only way to first open the door of Gods saving grace is by the key of FAITH.

Ga 3:2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Two points of grace are mentioned here, The Spirit and preaching about Christ that produced faith in the hearer to recieve the full grace of God to be saved.

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
(KJV)

So there is the divine influences being poured out on the sinner. Then He comes to that place of believing/faith in all that has been said, "all the counsel of God"

The repentant faith is the "key" that unlocks Gods grace to be poured into Him. The divine influence of the blood of Christ is applied to his account .The Spirit of Grace, the Holy Ghost seals him. and he begins the walk in newness of life by grace, grace, grace, faith, faith, faith.

So could we also say that 2 sides of the coin are faith and grace? We could also say 2 sides of coin are repentance from dead works and faith towards God?

The different gifts of the spirit are Grace, divine influences on the heart and reflection out into the life.

See here what Paul says,

Ro 12:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;

More could be expounded on this as well but for now I will leave this for all to hopefully look deeper into the greatness of Gods manifold grace that we are to be ministers of!!!

 Re:

Thingsabove,

I am so thankful for the subject on Grace that you have brought up.
Does it seem that,..with time,..so many things have gotten distorted ?

If we are saved by His Grace,..how detrimental is that ?

Art Katz once said that Grace was, "God Himself."

The Word says, that we cannot come to the Father, except He DRAW us.
The Father, who is Spirit / Word draws us to Himself,.....remember when He began drawing us, by His Spirit,..that Devine inffluence upon our heart ?
And then He continued drawing us out of our old way into His Way ?...
Grace continues.

Grace:
* the Devine enflence upon the heart,'....(the hearing of the Word) ...
* ' and it's reflection in the life'..(the doing of the Word) ...(Jas.1:2 But be ye doers of the Word and not hearers only " )

And don't we see Faith having a part in this ?
Rom.9:6 says,.." But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise,Say not in thine heart,Who shall ascend into heaven?(that is,to bring
to bring Christ down from above); ...(This Word / Spirit is come into us,to live in us,...to give us Life, and that more abundantly.
..it goes on to say,ver.8,..The Word is near thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart;that is the Word of faith, which we preach.

Oh, I wish I could portray what I am seeing...

This Word / Spirit of God is down in us drawing us by His Grace,..which is powerful,...it is like a fountain of Living Water, rising up from within as we have need...and too, with that Devine enflence,..drawing.

I know this has been long, and I am not trying to be a know-it-all.
But,like the whole body of Christ,..we have such a desire to help one another,..
Lovingly,
elizabeth

 Re:

elizabeth,

yes, all things get distorted and that is why we need Gods true grace to straighten out the distortions.
Not only in our lives but in the life of the church as you have said ,"helping one another".

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
vs 9 Not of works,(the dead works in the flesh) lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works,(these are the "grace works) which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Lord bless you as you share the hope within you with others!

 Re:

GRACE should be seen not only as “Divine influence on the heart and reflection in the life,” but also POWER!

Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave He “power” to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

15 ¶ John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.

16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
