| Need Doctrinal help ASAP | | OK - so I started going to this church about 8 weeks ago and it's been awesome, very Holy Spirit filled - but there's something in the preaching that has me at an impass. I've heard a reference once to 'word-faith' teaching, and they seem to teach on faith / Abraham a lot. So I was doing some digging and am copy / pasting some direct quotes from their over seer. That makes me a little weary.
" When we discover the rights we have in Christ that are given to us throughout the Bible, we are to constantly affirm them and testify to them. The apostle Paul said that as we share our faith, we will have an understanding of what we have in Christ: That the sharing of your faith may become effective by the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. (Philemon 6) Therefore, our faith will only be effective as we confess with our mouths, from a believing heart, all the good things which belong to us as believers in Jesus. We know that in Jesus Christ we have been given salvation. Salvation is a wonderful word. It means much more than just being saved from hell so that you can go to heaven one day. It is salvation for the whole man: spirit, soul, and body. It is for our peace of heart and mind, our homes, our health, and our finances. It is freedom from all bondage and fear, with nothing missing and nothing broken. Affirmation of these truths should ring from our lips. We are told to hold fast to them without wavering. Wavering is brought about through double-mindedness and causes our confession to deny the very things that God has promised us. ""
And "Confession of Gods Word from a believing heart is powerful. It is like the Word in Gods mouth. It creates, it moves mountains, and it releases heavens power! "
What's being taught here and should I be running for my life or what?!

| Re: Need Doctrinal help ASAP | | Yep... it's Word Faith. I've been there done that. There is some truth mixed with some error in the things you posted.
Whenever you visit a church and the preaching is "me me me me" ... "MY rights in Christ"... etc... it's something to be cautious about. It should be all about Jesus. His glory, His power, His kingdom... not your being, your health, your finances.
Forget all that garbage. It's all about HIM.
I cant tell you what to do, but as for me and my house... we would not go there anymore.

Simple... they dont. Satan is as an angel of light. He is very handsome and he is very slick.
I will not say that WOF churches and people who believe in that garbage are not Christians. We simply can not judge their hearts. We need to be careful of that. But WOF doctrine does paint a very different God than the Bible does. So the question becomes "Which God do you believe in?" The God of the Bible, or the Santa Claus God who demands that you be good (have enough faith) to make things happen? In other words, once again... it's all about YOU.
There are a lot of WOF preachers and teachers that are sincere, but sincerely deceived. And there are a lot of them that are hucksters, snake oil salesmen and used car dealers. (no offense to anyone who sells used cars! Repent and be saved!)
What is the manifest presence of God anyway? A feeling? A goosebump? You need to consider this... it's important.

| Re: | | Yeah, don't get me wrong I've been going to Times Square Church since 2001, I've just moved too far away to attend regularly, most of the local churches are very luke warm, so I finally find one that appears to be on fire, passionate worship, constant mission trips, etc. They are VERY into evangelism; but I will say this, I don't think I heard the word repentance once since going.
Either way, I'm out of that house, sucks because the people are genuine and pretty awesome, just most of them don't recognize it as a WOF church, this 1 part of me wants to try to show them truth - but I know where that will go, and it won't be pretty! Anyway, pray for them - pray for me as I hunt for a different church! _________________ Joe

.. praise God for the elders and brethren at TSC that put you in a position to recognize error! We live in a day where the very elect would be deceived if that were possible. That reminds me of this from Hebrews:
Hebrews 13:7 Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith.
"Anyway, pray for them - pray for me as I hunt for a different church!"
Do not be discouraged if you end up hunting for a few of the 7000 true believers that have not bowed their knee to baal.
In Christ -jim

| Re: | | Soulrider I'm not sure but i think we shared on a thread a long time back.
Brother I felt to share something with you that you don't need to ask anybody else what to do but seek God and get filled or refilled with the Holy Spirit and He will show you what to do and if these people are in error then He will show you how to go about it. Brother you've been in timesquare church all them years you have something few people have and you should be full of God to make a difference and if God says you can't then listen to Him. When I go somewhere the Holy Ghost shows me what to do and I expect the atmosphere to change.
Brother all power lives in me and He should to be living in you too!
Blessings...from brother rbanks |

This is why I would discourage a mute from joining the WOF. |

Sounds good, but like Krispy said, there is truth mixed with error.
Though this is all truth being spoken, it's the way it's written that is tricky. And that is how the devil works, he moves words around to make it all look good to the casual hearer but to the keen mind his ability to convince wanes.
Salvation is for the whole man yes, but there will be times that things will not be so rosy, we will have financial problems, we will be broken, we will have things missing and taken away from us, there will be ups and downs. Some go through hell and high water, others suffer greatly, while others do quite well for the benefit of those who suffer.
But through it all we have our Lord to help us even when those times we do not sense Him at all, but He said that He will never leave us nor forsake us. So, even if I do not sense Him being with me, I KNOW He is there.
Mark 10:30 But he shall receive an hundredfold NOW in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, WITH PERSECUTIONS; and in the world to come eternal life.
The Word of Faith folk quote all the desirable verses but they don't like the ones that are connected to the cross. They mention the cross in passing, but they don't stay there, there is no money there.

Do you notice this changing around of words to form a teaching?
This is taking what Paul said and using it for something else. Paul is talking about salvation entering the heart and then our tongues confess Christ as Lord.
Romans 10:8 ...The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Everyone who hears the gospel with their spiritual ears for the first time is going to blurt something out, something is going to come forth and this is what Paul was speaking of, it's nigh thee, even in your mouth and in thy heart.
Every man has faith, all it needs is the spark of the gospel to ignite it. |
