Some Important Principles For Christian Life by Greg Gordon

As we grow in the Christian life and in our walk with the Lord there are some guiding principles that help us along the way. These principles are overarching truths that the Spirit of God implants in our heart over and over again to keep us in the narrow way of life. Some of these principles will keep us from deceiving ourselves in areas of sin in our lives and walking away from the Lord in our hearts. Sincerity and an authentic walk with Jesus Christ is what matters the most. Even if there are areas in our lives that we need to repent of sin and overcome specific sins, it is still more important to walk in sincerity with the Lord not being double-minded (James 1:8).

Doing all Things unto God and not unto men - We must always in our walks with the Lord keep our eyes on the Lord and seek to please Him alone (Galatians 1:10). This is a liberating truth if we can realize that all we do can be for and to God. This makes everything we do then a spiritual work which reflects our thankfulness for our salvation in Christ to God. The fact is that we belong to Jesus Christ, He has redeemed us with His precious blood and therefore we are not our own (Romans 14:7-8). The fear of man is a snare but the fear of God is freedom to do His will. God is not frustrated when we seek to please Him as earthly fathers can be but loves and encourages us even when we fail. Are we willing to live everyday to simply please our Lord? May God keep us always to put ourselves low before Him and seek to do His will not caring about the opinions of men.

Staying Free From The Love Of Money - One of the most dangerous traps in Christian ministry and in Christian life is the love of money. The New Testament is full of warnings and clear admonitions towards this great evil that replaces the worship of God (Luke Luke 16:13). We are called to live a life of sacrifice and considering the poor in the example of our Lord. The bible never exalts being rich as a virtue but always warns of the dangers of such a life (1 Timothy 6:9). Also for Church leadership one of the great requirements is for Elders and Deacons not to love money or be eager for gain (1 Timothy 2:8). How many of todays Christian leaders serve God for money? Are you serving God for a pay check? Would you be willing to do the same thing if you received almost nothing? May we check ourselves and not be deceived. To make any decision in ministry because of money is a dangerous place, may we desire only God's will.

Considering Others Before Myself - The example of our Lord Jesus Christ shows us a way of liberty and freedom in life. His humility and death to self is our heavenly example of how to love others and esteem their value high above ourselves. All mankind is made in the image of God and therefore we can esteem them of great worth because God loves them greatly. Thus all men whether they are saved or not can be esteemed before ourselves. Another way we can esteem our brothers and sisters is in their gifting from God. Each part of the body of Christ has been given a gifting that they do better then ourselves and in this way we can esteem them higher them ourselves honouring them for who they are and how God uses them. The bible teaches to honour the weaker member in the body for they can hold to the simplicity of faith and the Gospel more easily then the wise and learnt (Matthew 11:25, 1 Corinthians 12:21-23).

The Fact Of The Judgment Day - A great motivation for the apostle paul was the judgment seat of Christ. This truth that Jesus Christ is coming back to judge the entire world and all things in it motivated Paul to live holy in light of his coming and to not judge others but himself. (Romans 14:10). When we start judging others in the body of Christ we have stopped judging ourselves and can be in spiritual jeopardy. There are many dangers in judging namely we can justify ourselves by pointing the fingers at other peoples faults (Luke 16:15). We can judge by outward appearance and have a form of godliness about outward dress, traditions and holy days (Colossians 2:16). And lastly to not judge leaves all the righteous judgement to God (1 Corinthians 4:5). When we judge others we are taking the place of God in most cases, we must share the mercy and grace of God with others and desire their change (repentance). Do you judge others more then yourself?

May we find in these principles freedom in our walks with Jesus Christ. Doing all things to God, Staying free from the love of money, considering others and having a holy fear of the judgement seat of Christ by not judging others but rather judging ourselves. As we trust the Holy Spirit of God to guide us daily he will led us perhaps into some of these biblical principles that will glorify God and make us His holy people on this earth (Ephesians 5:3).
