Hebrews 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
The hearts of many were revealed by the hour of the cross, Mary, Judas, Peter, and others. Whenever the Lord is moving toward something new, some fuller measure of Himself, very often there is an ordeal at the cross that we must go through.
The cross will expose the ugliness in the heart, Peter strongly opposed any idea that he would deny Christ, his heart needed to be exposed and therefore set right at the cross. Death followed by resurrection.
It's a wonder that any survived that ordeal. Judas did not survive, the others were kept by the Lord. Judas' course was a lifelong, calculated course, his was a matter of willfulness. But the others survived this terrible self disclosure through the intercession of Jesus, "I have prayed..." said the Lord. Luke 22:32
Our whole hope rests upon the grace of God. This must be more than just doctrine, we must learn His grace more and more through the practical experience of the daily cross. He ever liveth to make intercession for us, He will get us through on solid ground, He is our confidence. Even when we can't seem to pray for ourselves or for others, He prays.
This does not relieve us from responsibility, but when we have reached the end, He ever liveth...
He neither slumbers nor sleeps...
In Christ,
