The other day, when I came home from work, I found my daughters worried and concerned about our dog, that was for reasons unknown to us, in real pain. Her name is Santie, and she is what we call a pavement special, since she is a mix of nearly every breed from the township (informal settlement) outside our town. Someone bought her from her drunken owner, (trying to make a quick buck), at the main intersection nearby. She was vaccinated by them, but still crawling with fleas when we adopted her.
By late that evening, she was shivering from pain, and could hardly breathe. My daughters, especially the 2 older ones, were desperately looking for me to fix the situation. Since she had no fever, I knew it had to be a piece of bone that was stuck somewhere. I had 2 options. One was to take her to the Animal hospital that was about 50km away from us, and spend a small fortune on x-rays and a possible operation; the other was to ask my Heavenly Father to heal her.
As she laid in my arms, and I started to pray, I was almost immediately attacked by thoughts going through my mind. Thoughts like Why do you bother Him with the health of your dog? You dont have a right to ask that, you should take responsibility of it yourself. What if nothing happens, will it not make matters worse for your daughter that is already struggling with her Faith?
Fortunately I recently listened to Enjoying God's Grace - Part 1&2, by Derek Prince, here on Sermonindex. So, as I was praying in the Spirit over Santie, I received for her from God that what was provided to us through His Son, by His amazing Grace. We did not deserve it, Santie did not deserve it, but Help was availed to us by a benevolant God that relates to us because of His Grace.
Santie slowly started to quiet down, and as she was falling asleep, a thought popped into my mind to give her a suppository. I was not even sure if it was safe to do that, but I followed the prompting, and after putting her to bed, went to bed (exhausted).
The next morning my daughter and I looked nervously over the back-door to see how she was doing. From the enthusiasm of her customary morning greeting, we could all see that Santie was whole again
.
Our God is an ever-present Help in time of need.
Blessings
