I must work the works of him who sent me, night is coming...

4I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

I love Jesus, but sometimes when I read the gospel accounts you can see that Jesus is thinking on a whole different level. I’m sure Jesus’s disciples were wandering what does the time of the day have to do with you healing this man? We have seen you heal at night Jesus so what are you talking about?

I mean look at that statement, it almost sounds like its coming from a robot. ” I must do the works of him who sent me”. Only Jesus talks like that. The disciples were not even asking him about his works, but its clear that Jesus is being prompted not just to do some work, but also to communicate a point to his disciples. He has only one business to tend to and no matter how difficult or inconvenient it will be done. Jesus is so tuned into the will of the Father that he recognizes every single opportunity and good work that he is called to do. There is a sense of urgency in that statement. I must.

When is God’s will a must for us?

When will he have the resolve to say that I have no other choice but to do God’s will. I have no other option, nothing will stand in my way, I will not be distracted any longer. Do not bother me I am, I will, and I must do the will of God for which I am sent.

..........

God has good works for us to do a mission, just listen to these verses.

18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. (John 17:18)

looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Ephesians 2:10)Himself His own special people, zealous for good works (Titus 2:14)

10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.(Ephesians 2:10)

Christ has created us for good works but Jesus warns us that night is coming when no man can work. There’s a time when our chances and opportunities for certain things are going to close.Doors don’t stay open always. Even if some reopen the conditions may never be as prime as they were before. Think about all those houses that could’ve been sold when the market was high. That time is gone probably forever.

Paul echoes this idea in Ephesians 5 admonishing us that we should be 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

Let me take up the issue of evangelism, specifically preaching the gospel in the streets. I bring up evangelism because that is an area that I know God has specifically called me to but I have avoided. One of the thoughts that comes to my mind particularly as I see our society become increasingly more hostile to all things christian, is how long will the field be so ripe.

You see there will I repeat there will come a time in America where choosing to share the gospel either by passing out tracks or preaching will be enough to be reported to the police, or at the least escorted from the premises. In addition to that with all of our technology I foresee a day when you will be marked or identified as an agitator, extremist, or even worst .. a terrorist. The early church lived under similar circumstances. Acts is full of such stories of where evangelists and preachers who were simply preaching a message were criminalized and falsely accused of trumped up charges, all because of a small sect who were adept at creating a political raucous. Politicians will always be politicians and seek to appease certain bases, they did then and they do now. My point however, is whether conditions get worse sooner or later, I don’t want to wait till that happens. Paul stated that the days were evil 2000 years ago, they are just as even in fact more evil now.

In closing, God has work for us to do, let’s get serious in obeying and if we don’t know what work he has, His word will tell you. I suggest reading it because night is coming. Night is coming.
