For my part, I felt the title of this thread reveals a disrespect for human beings, whether they are Buddhist or Christian or anything at all. Among news of Steve's Job's passing on the internet, this thread in Sermon Index pops up as singularly contemptuous and insensitive.
Accolades aside, I am just wondering why we felt the need to write his obituary in these forums in the first place? When we try to write other's people's narratives, (or obituaries) we are in effect trying to take ownership of their story and reputation. And while writing Job's story, we may acknowledge he wasn't a Christian, but there is no need to render him as "the rich man who had to learn the hard way that all his money won't save him."
Such a class-focused narrative reflects poorly on not only our intellects as Christians, but also our hearts. That we see Steve Job only in terms of his wealth indicates that we are the ones focused on money---not Steve Jobs.
And spiritual concern for people is an excellent thing, but when we use language such as "Steve Job's just checked out" within 24 hours of his death, we are communicating to the world we seem to care very little about people in general. My critique over this lack of respect shown to non-Christians is not "worshipping on the altar of Steve Jobs". Nor is it endorsing Buddhism. Indeed, the respect I am talking about isn't even endorsing Apple products. This is about showing common respect----demonstrating sensitivity to a life that just ended a day or so ago.

We are banning "endzone" from the forums for such speech and behaviour in this thread including the comment above that should not be spoken by Christians on a Christian forum or even a secular one.
