 Re:

Just for the record. All you who want to worship at the altar of Jobs.... He was a devout Buddhist. I'm all glad you hold this man in high regard maybe you should have gone to witness to him when he was alive if you admired him so....oh you didnt admire him that much....yea he probably would have laughed at you and had Apple security escort you out....wouldn't want that. You hear the same "death bed conversion" (hopes) from Elvis fans too...Give me a break. Stop sugar coating everything and call it. He was a self professed Buddhist who relied on Karma. Man I gotta be politically Correct on SI now

"What is sad is you can run and have the most success with a business (one of the largest in the world) and have 100 of millions' in the bank and without Jesus Christ you are lost and have no hope. Oh the vanity of riches and money and anything you can grasp in this earth. What only counts is faith (things unseen) in christ the son of God."

It reminds me of when Ravenhill spoke about what Mr Wesley left behind; a few spoons, a shawl, some other things and the Methodist Church. He received money, and look where it went!

Mr Jobs is being tributed for his service to technology. I hope that in eternity our own works bring glory to God.

There is NO SUCH THING AS UNconditional eternal security!

{eta}Been made aware that I hadn't addressed this more directly to what/where I meant - Endzone, THANK GOD you're still breathing and your heart is still working, unlike this other unsaved man, Jobs.

THANK GOD you haven't been banned for the excess vulgarity you've spewed over this forum since you've signed on and for your extreme nastiness to good Sisters and Brothers on this site, since you've signed on.

Thank GOD for this extra mercy shown in your direction from both GOD and the Brethren here and that no lengthy searches on all of your posts have been possible - as yet.

Thank GOD for the extra time and the unendless witnesses that you can expose yourself to, through all of the Sermons and Godly posts on this Site and others, while you still have breath - in Jesus' Name!

Enochh, I agree with you 100%. I was thinking along the same lines....I was wondering why all these accolades for someone who was a Buddhist! Mother Teresa would get no praise on here but Steve Jobs did because of his work in electronics! Mother Teresa gets no praise and she worked with saving people in the gutter!

Now go figure!

I am not politically correct either, so move over Enochh...

I do not understand this because it is there, at least I see it.

I any case, MJ, I did email you. If you do not see it, check your junk box... For some reason some of my good emails go there - even Enid's will go there - don't know why unless it is from the UK!

Hi Ginny,

For my part, I felt the title of this thread reveals a disrespect for human beings, whether they are Buddhist or Christian or anything at all. Among news of Steve's Job's passing on the internet, this thread in Sermon Index pops up as singularly contemptuous and insensitive.

Accolades aside, I am just wondering why we felt the need to write his obituary in these forums in the first place? When we try to write other's people's narratives, (or obituaries) we are in effect trying to take ownership of their story and reputation. And while writing Job's story, we may acknowledge he wasn't a Christian, but there is no need to render him as "the rich man who had to learn the hard way that all his money won't save him."

Such a class-focused narrative reflects poorly on not only our intellects as Christians, but also our hearts. That we see Steve Job only in terms of his wealth indicates that we are the ones focused on money---not Steve Jobs.

And spiritual concern for people is an excellent thing, but when we use language such as "Steve Job's just checked out" within 24 hours of his death, we are communicating to the world we seem to care very little about people in general. My critique over this lack of respect shown to non-Christians is not "worshipping on the altar of Steve Jobs". Nor is it endorsing Buddhism. Indeed, the respect I am talking about isn't even endorsing Apple products. This is about showing common respect----demonstrating sensitivity to a life that just ended a day or so ago.

I hope this helps,

Mike

 Re:

Thanks, Mike for your clear thinking, evaluation on this subject.

When I first read the title I thought of someone checking out of motel, not dying! OH....! It is disrespectful, even if the fellow was not a Christian. There is no excuse to be disrespectful to anyone...

Yea, it's too bad we have a god that we can't trust in. A god who offers us salvation, but isnt big enough to hold on to us... a god who makes us earn it if we're gonna keep it... but then HE takes all the credit for it.

What an (un)mighty god we serve...

Krispy

PS: Tongue planted firmly in cheek, of course.

I appreciate your sense of humor, Ginny. It keeps us young. (That's what I tell myself at least!)
