 Perpetual desolation

The poem that I wrote below is based on Psalm 74. There are many out there who know the pain of destruction, who know the agony of failure. Their failure has allowed the doors of destruction to be open and in pours hell and all of its fury. And when the enemy comes on he comes in without mercy. He wreaks havoc and tears down everything, things that took a lifetime to build, perhaps generations to establish, this is the nature of the enemy, he is a destroyer. He takes that which is precious and crushes it. Now while this is very true on a personal level, this is also true on a national level. This Psalm is a lament. It laments invasion. It cries out to God from a hopeless place. It remembers its past victories and cries out to God to remember His covenant. Brothers I believe that there is such a time coming to Christendom, a time of perpetual desolation, a time of losing everything that has been precious to us, a stripping down until we stand naked before God and all that is left is what is truly valuable to us, our relationship with Him. Stand fast in the days ahead brothers and sisters. Press into God now, fill your lamps with oil now for the darkness comes, the darkness comes. In this place of desolation we can find Gods glory. For even the darkness is light to Him, praise God.

Oh Lord I look out at perpetual desolation
I see nothing but the blackness of the night
I hear the jackals howling in anticipation
And my sunken eyes behold this dreadful sight

The sun has set and shall it rise again?
Or has the nightly shadows won the day?
On every side they break and tear to pieces
And the reapers hand is never far away

I listen for a voice, nay, only silence
Total devastation is my only friend
He makes a feast of all I ever hoped for
And the hell lies in no knowledge of its end

And only at this point can I consider
Of all I took for granted every day
The beauty that has died and gone forever
Torments my soul and causes me to pray

Oh Lord forget me not for I have fallen
Fallen from the lofty heights of your embrace
My heart cries out, its pierced by many sorrows
As it languishes, it longs to see your face

I am your child on that alone I call thee
For I have squandered every morsel from your hand
And now I lay among the dead and dying
And I know that this is not what you had planned

Oh Father will you save me for your own sake
For darkness haunts the earth and cruelty reigns
Remember the apple of your eye and where I came from
Destroy the darkness and reverse its ghastly gains.

Hi Trekker, the Lord has never led me to write about something that He has not had me walk through. I am sure that not only yourself, but countless people could relate to what you are saying. The thing about tribulations, it can either draw us closer to God or embitter us......brother Frank

 Re:

I said it somewhat humorously tho i do also feel desolate a lot. But no, not bitter. I once struggled with feeling that way for many years but not anymore, thankfully.

 Re: Perpetual desolation

I shall read the poem in a moment. I feel I shall have to steel myself a bit for it. Having read your introduction to it Brother Frank, I expect that, given the last 4 years, God will speak to what He's been doing on my side the mountain.

Till I read the rest, I shall say no more.

Edited to add: Yes, that seems to sum it up.

Hi Jason, please read below a reply that I recieved to this piece on my website, I think that it catches perfectly what the Spirit was showing me from Psalm 74 and why I had to let the other poster on this site know that there is nothing humorous about this word...........

Oh my brother - as we look out upon this dread "christian" landscape, among the nations once-raised to prominence and blessing by the gospel of Jesus Christ,but now fully leavened. As we mourn the vanishing lampstands, the almost
complete corruption that has consumed the testimony of our Lord.. .how can we not see the dark parallel between ancient Israel and today, as recorded in Psalm
74?

Where have all the prophets gone? The Wilkersons, the Ravenhills, the Tozers? Where is the revelation of the heart of the Lord? Has the Master forgotten His beloved? Has He cast us off in His sore displeasure? So many men
saying so many things, but where is the Word of the Lord in this dark hour?Where are the hearts melted down, contrite and emptied of the hopes of men?

Where are those who defend the cause of the Lord - not their group, not their teacher - but the cause of the Lord?
I dare say I am most discouraged lately brother Frank. Much like the one who wrote this desperate Psalm. Yet is He still not working His salvation in the midst of the earth? Will He not soon rise up to defend His cause?

Pray dear saints. Just pray, for we are entering into strange and dark times. We must not lose our faith or our trust in Him, even though everything our eyes see lead only to greater despair and discouragement.

Where are You Oh Lord? What are You doing? Why have You hidden Yourself away seemingly? We Your little ones are here, and we need You so desperately, to hold us up, to keep us living and moving in Thee!

Psalm 74

O God, why do you cast us off forever?
Why does your anger smoke against the sheep of your pasture?
Remember your congregation, which you have purchased of old,
which you have redeemed to be the tribe of your heritage!
Remember Mount Zion, where you have dwelt.
Direct your steps to the perpetual ruins;
the enemy has destroyed everything in the sanctuary!

Your foes have roared in the midst of your meeting place;
they set up their own signs for signs.
They were like those who swing axes
in a forest of trees.
And all its carved wood
they broke down with hatchets and hammers.
They set your sanctuary on fire;
they profaned the dwelling place of your name,
bringing it down to the ground.
They said to themselves, "We will utterly subdue them";
they burned all the meeting places of God in the land.

We do not see our signs;
there is no longer any prophet,
and there is none among us who knows how long.
How long, O God, is the foe to scoff?
Is the enemy to revile your name forever?
Why do you hold back your hand, your right hand?
Take it from the fold of your garment and destroy them!

Yet God my King is from of old,
working salvation in the midst of the earth.
You divided the sea by your might;
you broke the heads of the sea monsters on the waters.
You crushed the heads of Leviathan;
you gave him as food for the creatures of the wilderness.
You split open springs and brooks;
you dried up ever-flowing streams.
Yours is the day, yours also the night;
you have established the heavenly lights and the sun.
You have fixed all the boundaries of the earth;
you have made summer and winter.

Remember this, O LORD, how the enemy scoffs,
and a foolish people reviles your name.
Do not deliver the soul of your dove to the wild beasts;
do not forget the life of your poor forever.

Have regard for the covenant,
for the dark places of the land are full of the habitations of violence.
Let not the downtrodden turn back in shame;
let the poor and needy praise your name.

Arise, O God, defend your cause;
remember how the foolish scoff at you all the day!
Do not forget the clamor of your foes,
the uproar of those who rise against you, which goes up continually!
