| "Christians" cussing | | I've noticed a disturbing trend among some of those among believers who make use of cuss words, course language, etc. Granted, they tend to be very careful not to use God or His name as a cuss word... but other than that, not much different than the world.
Has anyone else noticed that?
What is going on in the church today that we feel like we have to do this? Especially among men. There is a movement (which I think is good) for Christian men to stop being wimps and stand up and be men... however, along with this has come "course jesting", vulgarity and cussing.
I hate it. The Lord spent a loooong time cleaning up my mouth and my mind... and now I hear this in the church these days. Ugh!

| Re: "Christians" cussing | | My speech changed instantly upon conversion. Old things paased away, all things became new! that is upon having a good conscience toward God. Can i ask ever so politely ( and to use your word) why did it take so "loonnng" for God to clean up your speech? May i ask? Just Curious? _________________ Bro Stephen

| Re: "Christians" cussing | | Where is the virtue in foul language? And if that is what is coming out of the mouth, what is going on in the mind?
Doesn't it tell us in James 3 about the tongue?
For someone who professes Christ as Lord, and uses speech that satan would be proud of, questions need to be asked. |

| Re: | | Because apparently God works at a different pace in different people. My mouth cleaned up a lot faster than my mind.
I think part of the reason is because I was in churches that were "seeker sensitive" for awhile... trying to be like the world to win the world. The Bible was not being taught.
I could probably write a book about it, but thats not really the point of this thread. I'm speaking about people who have been in the church and claim to have been saved for years... some even hold positions of authority in the churches in which they belong... and I notice it more and more.
Even among pastors.

| Re: | | Allow me to go further. Jews under Law, and knowing the Law, And without the power of the cross or the power of the holy ghost didn't have (major) issues with cussing, dirty speech, dirty languuge, vulgar talk, Etc. Yes even under law! And those found guilty of blaspheming God ( under law) faced the judges - and could be stoned under law (worthy of death) So therefore Christians with the the HOLY Ghost should be all the more... advantaged being cleansed "with-in" BOOM BOOM _________________ Bro Stephen

| Re: | | I actually don't buy that argument! Sorry. But i just don't buy it krisp. Im not asking for perfection. But cussing went really really really quick with me. It just did .... maybe the fear of God kicked in quick with me too... _________________ Bro Stephen

| Re: | | So does gambling, fornication, alcohol abuse, smoking take time too? or do you Know Upon conversion ...certain things are (automatically wrong) considering yes you are just a "babe in Christ. But yes ... a babe with a conscience TOWARD GOD (NOW)? fair question. No? _________________ Bro Stephen

| Re: | | It doesnt matter how quickly God dealt with me about that, the fact is it was a long time ago and in the past. I've seen people get saved and drop alcohol and tobacco that very day by the power of God... and I've seen people get saved and struggle with it for awhile before finally getting victory over it by the same power of God.
Just because that was your experience doesnt mean it's everyone's.
Either way, this isnt about me. This is about a growing trend in the church that I am seeing. It's not people trying to clean up their language and thought life... it's people glorying in it and actually encouraging it.
Try to stick to the topic, if you dont mind.

| Re: | | I find words fascinating, they can have different meanings with different intentions. I remember listen to one preacher say the intentions of the words used are always important to look at. Are they being said with malicious intent? I agree with this to an extent but I still find basically zero use for the words since there are usually far better words to use to better express yourself with.
May I ask about the substitution of words? Like when the Lord began to clean up my language I would replace the vulgarity with different words like if I accidently hurt myself or was startled I was say Fiddlesticks.
This I would imagine could be a very long thread if we wish to explore every possiblity of words. _________________ Matthew Guldner

| Re: | | You've missed the topic of the thread, my brother. Can we focus on what I wish to discuss here please?
To clarify... I wish to discuss the growing trend within the church to actually ENCOURAGE course language, cussing (even from the pulpit), etc.
This is NOT about people struggling with sin, this is about people GLORYING in their sin.
