Great Bibleverses

In pursuit of the wonderful thread “Great Quotes”, I thought of starting this thread “Great Bibleverses”. Encourage and edify your brothers and sisters in the Lord with the words of God that are precious to you. Feel free (and don’t be shy) to also explain the background of them. How have they influenced your life? In what situation did you receive this verse from God? Was it a word of encouragement, comfort, warning etc?

There’s nothing so awesome than to receive a personal word of God in a specific situation. And that’s what Gods word is all about. The Bible isn’t a great book of literature. It doesn’t merely contain “great wisdoms”. If that where to be the Bible, I would have thrown it out of the window after the first time I read it, or kept it on my shelf as a referencebook. No, it’s a LIVING word through which God Himself communicates with us each single day!

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom” (Col 3:16)

I find it great joy to receive Bibleverses from friends. Although the words of famous men of God are a blessing and the tender words of friends mean a lot to me, I cannot be more blessed than by personal words of my Lord and Savior. They always hit the right spot. They are always correct. They never return void and always draw a response. “The words which I have spoken unto you are spirit and are life” (John 6:63).

The words of Christ are lifechanging and even lifegiving! We need His words more than ever, for it is our foundation. Hosea makes the situation in which we live very clear: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). God isn’t so much talking about headknowledge (although even that is lacking nowadays), but heartknowledge. Somehow I really have a burden for this thread. I recognize a huge need for the words of God in my own life. I can’t put trust in my feelings and experiences. I must trust in the words of God.

I pray that the verses being posted here, will be used by God to touch the lives of many people.

"In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts have delighted my soul"
Psalm 94:19 (Darby)

Some time ago, I had a situation in which my mind got really mixed up. Maybe this seems to be more like "A Bold and the Beautiful"-scenario, but I was really confused by it. I liked a girl, but a girlfriend of that girl liked me. I didn't know what I had to do and prayed much about it. Talking about "multitude of thoughts".

Finally, God made clear that my "love" for that girl was impulsive and not from Him. I gave it up...but this verse has been a great comfort and encouragement by God to me. It brought me back to my real first and only Love: Jesus Christ!

"Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God"
Romans 10:17

Moody asked God for more faith in his life, so that he could have more passion for lost souls and a love for God, but nothing happened. He didn't give up however. He prayed unceasingly, but still nothing happened. Then he opened his Bible and read these verses. He never prayed for more faith again ;-)

I see myself slipping away so fast. I get caught up in old habits and loose sight of Christ. I need faith to move mountains. And God has shown us where to get it. Though it is a process, it is the key!

"For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her"
Zechariah 2:5

This is how the Lord wants to be in our lives. Glory in our midst, through the indwelling of the Holy Ghost, and a wall of fire round about, to protect us from our enemies.

 Re: Great Bibleverses

"And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God"
Joel 2:13

" The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise"
Psalm 51:17

God will not despise a broken and a contrite heart. But my problem is this: how do I "get" (knowing that it isn't some sort of mystic formula) it?

A saddening conclusion of a sober fact in my life:
"It seems to be easier to have all the bones in my body broken, than to have a broken heart"

What to do? I don't know. I only know I must walk in the Light and I'll pray the words of which the signature of Ed (Gideon) always reminds me: "Oh Lord, bend me! Bend me!"

I need to have it, to see the sinfulness of my sin, to weep over my sin. Not a selfish grieve, but a holy grieve. Not a grieve which will leave me as I am in my sin, but a grieve which will drag me out of Sodom (by God) and will bring me on my knees before the throne of God in Sion.

 Re:

"I am rejoicing over you, but I want you not only to be wise in what is good, but also innocent to what is evil."
Romans 16:19

God can't be more realistic! Do you recognize this, fellow soldier of Christ?! You are wise to what is good...you desire nothing more and nothing less than to be totally sold out to Jesus Christ? ...

...and still you aren't innocent to what is evil? What to think of backbiting, pornography, envy - to name a few?

There are two steps to be made:

1. Be wise to what is good (set your heart on things above - Col 3:3)
2. Be innocent to what is evil

And yes, you're right. You need more than a method. You need a Man: Jesus Christ.

Consider these following verses and though I know by experience that it's a fight in which we all may fail at times (simply because we can't do it in our own strength), believe the truth and apply it to your life. He is there for you. I encourage you!

"He raised Him (Christ) from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet..." (Ephesians 1:20-22)

"[and God] raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus..." (Ephesians 2:6)

Yep, my friends...Jesus is seated above all principality and power and might and dominion. He has all things under His feet. And in the second verse God tells us that we are seated in the heavenly places as well, in Christ.

Do you know what that means? That means that in Christ we are seated far above all principality and power and might and dominion...and...and...you get it?

Hallelujah. Praise the Lord that Jesus Christ is alive. He's not a Renovator, but a Reviver! He's not trying to fix you and me. He gives us a whole new life.

If you want to read something more about this marvellous truth I recommend to read this article by Chip Brogden: Victory is a Man

Shalom in Christ!

Paul

 Re: Great Bibleverses

"Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand."
Matthew 12:25

I'm that kingdom. And what about you? The kingdom that desperately needs a revival, isn't the United Kingdom, it's not the USA and it's not The Kingdom of the Netherlands...it's this kind of kingdom.

We desperately need:
1. Jesus Christ
2. each other

And therefore we desperately need a restoration of authencity, honesty and reality in our churches and among believers.

I definitely need it guys!

For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

 Re:

"Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life:"
John 11:25

Early in my conversion to Christ this verse was such a powerfull and special influence upon me. In this utterance is seen His exceeding and peculiar greatness amongst all professors of truth and religon the world has ever known. In it is a sweet harmony with these truths elsewhere expressed:

Never man spake like this man!

All that ever came before Him were thieves and robbers.
