Please pray about the situation in Jos, Nigeria

Jos, Nigeria September 5, 2011

Please pray about the situation in Jos.

Emmanuel Akpo, National Director of Fellowship of Christian Students (SU's work in Northern Nigeria) sent this request today:

'Beloved Brethren, keep praying for us in Jos as the City has become like a ghost town due to escalation of religious crisis resulting in huge loss of lives and properties last week. Most people have remained indoors for days now . Many churches around hot spots in the city could not hold services yesterday due to planned attacks by suicide bombers. This new dimension of suicide bombing in the crisis has generated so much tension and fear. There city is filled with soldiers who had betrayed the trust the public had on them due to rampant cases of complicity. We need God's quick intervention to restore normalcy as most activities have come to a halt. However, FCS family members were not hurt.'

Please pray urgently about this situation.

Thank you for this urgent prayer request for the Body of Christ in Nigeria.

Christians are being killed in masses by Muslims. Below is a portion of an article that will give you a sense of the urgency of the situation in Jos.

"Hundreds Buried in Mass Graves after Post-Election Violence in Nigeria

Following the election of Christian candidate Jonathan Goodluck in the Nigerian presidential election, Muslim mobs carried out simultaneous attacks against Christian minorities in most of the northern Nigerian states. While impartial observers have called this election the fairest in decades, the attackers alleged that the election was rigged and that General Muhammadu Buhari, a Muslim presidential candidate, was the rightful winner.

Though Nigerian authorities quickly organized mass burials of the victims in order to hide the details of the massacre, our sources estimate that hundreds of Christians were slaughtered. One of our sources travelled to the towns of Zonkwa and Kafanchan in Kaduna, where more than 300 people, mostly Christians, were massacred.

Muslims were also among the dead as the militants killed fellow Muslims who had voted for President Goodluck, and Christians in some areas killed Muslims in defense of their lives and families.

The Muslim attackers also burned down 308 churches (see one such church below) and several Christian homes."

 Re:

This is sickening. How the devil has come to kill and destroy...

How can man cause such violence because he feels that he has been wronged of his political rights? Only by the power of Satan, who fills his heart with hatred.

May God have mercy on His people in Nigeria. May God have mercy on these Muslims and grant them repentance unto eternal life. Pray that the Christians would be able to love their enemies, or else the devil has won... Pray that they would have the same attitude as that of Jesus: "When He was reviled, He did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but continued entrusting Himself to Him who judges justly." (1 Peter 2:23)

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.(Romans 12:21)
