People across America are gathering at many locations today, the National Day of Prayer (NDP), to humble themselves before God in prayer.On Friday, the White House released a presidential proclamation marking today's observance of the National Day of Prayer -- the constitutionality of which was affirmed in a recent federal court ruling. "Throughout our history, Americans have turned to prayer for strength, inspiration, and solidarity," President Barack Obama states in the proclamation. "Prayer has played an important role in the American story and in shaping our nation's leaders."Michael Calhoun, director of communications for the NDP Task Force, concurs, noting prayer has been an "indispensable" part of the nation's heritage.
