DAILY LIGHT - DECEMBER 28 MORNING

Thy sins be forgiven thee.

I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. - Who can forgive sins but God only?

I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins. - Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity. - Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity?

God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. - The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. - Sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

 REFLECTIONS - DECEMBER 28 EVENING

Thy sins be forgiven thee.--Mark 2:5

Our Lord speaks to the man's deepest need. He begins with the disease of his soul. What the man was physically was only a picture of what he was morally and spiritually. Christ has all power over both spheres. Men were looking at the man's temporal misery. Christ is occupied first of all with the man's eternal welfare. They would have been content had our Lord only granted the bodily cure. But our Lord has a higher aim and a grander purpose in all His miracles of healing than the mere restoration of physical health. His miracles are signs of something far higher than their temporal benefit. On this occaison, He teaches that He has power on earth to forgive sins; a perogative the Jews justly believed belonged to God alone. That He can forgive sins, the miracle of healing is a proof. The fact that He can forgive sins is witness to His deity.

"I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins" (Isa. 43:25).

"Blessed is [the man] whose transgression is forgiven" (Ps. 32:1).
