 Internet safety

I am sure there are many who use this site that know quite a bit about how computers and the internet work. I am searching for an internet filter to guard against those accidental website hits that I have heard about. I am trying to protect my family and myself from unhealthy images. Obviously if I want to see those images, the filter probably won't stop me, but I have heard some stories about what has been seen when doing an innocent search.
I got a trial of one filter and it seemed to work ok, but then sometimes did not. I really don't want to do a lot of testing these things, as it is not good for me to see these images, even to "test" the product. Is it ok to talk about specific products on here?

K9 Web Protection. I have been using this for over 3 months now and found it the best free filter yet!

How do these things work? When I tested it with a keyword, it generally stopped the site. I am assuming these things can't preview the site for images, only words. Is that correct?

When you install it on your computer it will automatically block all wrong content and is very good at this!

 Re: Internet safety

We use b-secure filter and anti-virus for about 5 dollars a month. I hear internetsafety.com is good as well. We set up the parameters and I have NEVER had an accidental popup embarrass me in 2 years. I strongly advise it for any internet user.

 Re:

We have had both CharacterLink through Bill Gothard's ministry, and Integrity as filters.....my computer savvy sons were able to get around the filters by typing in s*x for sex, or p*rn for porn, etc...I am sure there are other ways that tech-oriented people can find a way to sin if they want to....And with Integrity, even though we talked to tech support a number of times, I could type in "bikini" for example and get all kinds of bad pictures, but it would block my quilting websites that showed pictures of quilts - go figure.....Maybe there are better things out there, but just wanted to share my experience since my mind doesn't go in the direction of trying to figure out how to get around protective filters....

Thanks, Greg, for the link. I did install the K9 and it works much better than the Net Nanny. I have the unfortunate job of testing the product to see how it is working, and I saw way more than I should have with NN. K9 stops more sites, although the shopping sites were not all stopped. I have a lot of respect for those that watch movies and other types of media and give us Godly reviews so we can make good decisions. We should pray for those people. The stuff is poison. I can back off on the testing now, and maybe look at it again when the kids are older.

EDIT: This was supposed to be in the original thread with the same title. Sorry.
