Some history of the reformation we need to look at. Life and death..

The Systematic Murder of Believers
Berean Beacon <bereanbeacon.org>

Dear Partner in the Gospel,
The systematic murder of believers is an indictment against the Papacy that is warranted. Interest in the history the Inquisition continues, and many people, including Catholics, desire to get the facts in written format.

This we do, together with the actual photos of instruments of torture and death, and accompanied by more than 600 years of dreadful horror. In the words of the renowned Catholic historian Lord Acton, “The Inquisition is peculiarly the weapon and peculiarly the work of the Popes.

It stands out from all those things in which they co-operated, followed or assented as the distinctive feature of papal Rome. The principle of the Inquisition is the Pope’s sovereign power over life and death.

Whosoever disobeys him should be tried and tortured and burnt. That is to say, the principle of the Inquisition is murderous, and a man’s opinion of the Papacy is regulated and determined by his opinion of religious assassination.”

We wish to reach out in love especially to those within the Papal system; while the article is strong in denunciation, nonetheless we trust the Lord’s own promise, “the truth shall make you free.”

The article is a valuable source of documented historical truth, kindly makes it known to others. It is located at: http://www.bereanbeacon.org/SMBe.pdf

We regret that we cannot email the article to you as a Word document because of the many photos that are embedded in it. Our DVD on the Inquisition continues to attract thousands of viewers on the Internet. For example it is easily viewed at:

May we learn from these wicked atrocities. While it is easy to point out the sins of others, we too easily justify our own. May God have mercy on us.

It always blows my mind whenever I read anything of the persecution inflicted by the religious upon any other group. How can any one with a normal mind inflict such cruelty on another person? The inspiration of these methods of torture must have come from the Pit. What a contrast to the love and mercy of our loving Father...

 Re:

Hi Ginnyrose, did you know that the foundations of those torturers was the "Dominicans," a Catholic group founded in France in 1214 by "Saint Dominic." Rather than earning their living on vast farms as the monasteries had done, the new friars would survive by begging, "selling" themselves through persuasive preaching. (hmm, sound familiar?)

Anyway, they persecuted the Albigensians. When the inquisition started, the grand inquisitor, Tomás de Torquemada, came from the order of the Dominicans. To top of the evil, their banner would state for " the love of Christ." Yes sister, this order of preacher came from the pit...........brother Frank

Thank you for posting, I praise the Lord for His incredible grace He gave to our past Brothers and Sisters in Christ. It brings great joy to know that when persecution starts yet again He hasn't change in regards to the Grace He provides, the Lord knows we will need it.

 Re:

Frank,

I also know it was the Catholics who severely persecuted the Anabaptists. Then after the reformers/Lutherans gained political power they persecuted the Anabaptists as well. Some have said they were worse then the Catholics. It is only by the mercy and grace of God that the tyrants' yoke on the people was broken.

In reflecting on this terrible torture, abuse inflicted upon fellow men, I wonder where the modern day (EDIT) American Christian could escape to if such persecution were to come our way? Got a suggestion?

 Re:

I believe if we look at history we find the leaks of the church has always been slow and left ignored. When the communist took over in Russia, the Communist put religious people into higher position giving false sense of power. Basically the organized church at large sold themselves to the government for gain. But eventually those churches that did this became the persecutors eyes and ears.

It was in times of persecution that the true Church of Jesus Christ went underground. I believe that Christ will shake EVERYTHING that can be shaken and not standing on His firm foundation.

Where will the church go? Well for one we will know our true Brothers and Sisters in Christ because they will be the ones persecuted for the same cause, we will go where the Lord leads whether that be jail or secret meetings.

 Re:

Hi sister,

It is true, there was much persecution by the reformers. I think when the next persecution comes, there will be no where to go. Initially there will be, I believe, as Matthew said, secret meetings, house meeting much like China. Yet if the prophetic calender points to Christ coming back, and His return is imminent, then this also spells the end for the accuser of the brethren. So, the times will be unprecedented. This is why I believe that the Lord will pour out His Spirit on the remnant in such a way as to prepare us for this coming storm. He will overshadow us for sure, and fill us to enable us. Now is the time to draw near to Him and follow Him with all of our hearts.........brother Frank

 Re:

That was a disturbing read to say the least. How I would vastly need God's grace under such a circumstance.

I can not see how anyone would be exempt from this need. There is not one who would be strong enough to withstand the torture as depicted in the link apart from the enabling grace of God. The fact that many did is a powerful testimony to the empowerment by the grace of God in the life of his children.

When I think too long about this kind of physical pain, it just about makes me go crazy. But when I recall how God has been with me in the past, I know that if things would get terrible, He will be there and I want to stay close by His side. So one better start practicing now and not wait until things get bad and then expect God to bail us out.
