Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.

John 5:8-9 "8 Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” 9 At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked..."

Jesus as the true source of healing and grace, gives the man a simple command to get up, pick up your mat, and walk. He is first commanded to get up as we are called from death to life so was the man called from a place though a placed that healed many was a source of grief to the man, who was unable to get into the pool himself.

Next he is called to pick up his mat, this he sat and lay waiting. Christ calls us in a similar manner to pick up our cross dailt, dying to sin and self.

Then he is called to walk as we are called to walk daily in freedom from bondage as that place of good became a reproach to the helpless man. Jesus sets people free from every kind of bondage.

The man found mercy with CHrist never would he have to sit another day by the pool but was free to walk and live because of Christ Jesus. The man obeyed the words of Christ by faith, and by the faith God gave him he was healed. Christ's call to us today is to follow Him but this is difficult to do while in bondage to the world that is why we need to be set free through the Cross of Christ and His Atoning work.

Those that faithfully bear their cross find the load becomes lighter as the bondage of the world falls off. What the average man views as a reproach those in Christ carry it with Love and delight. What freedom can the world offer us as compared to the Light burdens of Christ Jesus. We are never required to do what is beyond our ability through Christ, but God knows where we are wanting us closer to Him daily. This can only be done through the Work of the Cross.
