 Soul Tie Apologetics

Hey everyone, I need some help here, I know it may be a touchy subject, but I'm not really looking for a debate here, what I really need, is information. Resources, to be exact, and preferably free online ones.

Ok, so what I am looking for here, is an apologetic study of soul ties, and deliverance ministry, and the wrong and right aspects of it. I already know the basics of what I think, and I know generally well what the word says about it, but I can't seem to find anything that examines it unbiased. Mostly because there are 800 billion deliverance websites. So... please help here, I need something in depth, that really holds it up to the truth of scripture. Thx.

 Re: Soul Tie Apologetics

It's interesting, but I went to a very Pentecostal Bible college, and studied theology that was very much Pentecostal. Yet, in spite of deliverance ministries usually having a Pentecostal background, I can't say I ever recall the topic coming up, or that we read any books on it. Outside of maybe an off-handed remark by a student or professor, I'm going to guess finding hard, factual, objective, scholarly information on the subject is going to be very hard.

 Re:

I came up with lots of links when I googled:

"soul ties jessie penn-lewis"

I checked some of the links out and saved some that looked good and I recognized something I knew about them.

It's not a touchy subject to me, but it certainly is to a lot of people. The whole thing about Christians can only be oppressed and not possessed by a demon.

Christians can have whatever they ask for and guess what, they get it! If we give ground, the Devil will take it.

It is an abomination for a Christian to fear the devil and every Christian walking with God can cast out a demon. The Church does not teach about Satan. They think they glorify him when they do.

Luk 10:20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

I do recommend:
War on the Saints by Jessie Penn-Lewis
Blumhardt's Battle - Translated from the original German Manuscript by Frank S. Boshold
The Awakening - Friedrich Zuendel

You will not find the direct mention of "soul ties" in scripture, but I think there is a truth in the basic concept. When any man is joined to a harlot, the two become one just as in marriage. When a man enters into a covenant with another man there is a certain amount of oneness or connection between the two. So if you are "tied" so to speak with something evil, there are times when that connection needs to be broken. I don't necessarily believe that someone has to perform some sort of "deliverance" ritual for this to happen, but there are times when you need other more mature believers to help you take authority over these things and be free from them. I really don't like the term "soul ties" because it is so loaded with extra meaning because of abuses of the idea. I do believe that people can connect themselves to other people or other things and that this connnection can open the door for spiritual bondage and that these people need to be set free from that bondage.

I know that is not truly apologetic. I would suggest studying all instances of people being delivered from some form of demonization in scripture and seeing if you can find why they were in that condition to begin with.

 Re: Soul Tie Apologetics

There is a book by Dr. Joe Allbright called 'Liberating the Bruised' although you have to wade through it with discernment. The book itself is very good at describing demonic possession and oppression as well as deliverance ministry.

I personally know of 3 people that had their lives changed (for the good) after going through his 'process'.

Doctrinally I have some disagreements (he believes in body and soul only, I believe in spirit, body, soul etc.) with what he writes and teaches BUT the fruit of the ministry is good. The teachings in the book helped to set my friends free from rape and sexual molestation. I'm extremely thankful for that!

There's a ton of info on his website here: http://www.liberating-the-bruised.com/

Thanks for listening!

In Christ,

 Re:

You just reminded me of a great book by Carroll Thompson.

The Bruises of Satan

Very good, very balanced and true to God's Word. Little book, but extremely annointed.

I know the man, too. Very meek and kind. Radiates Jesus and has a tenderheart towards the brokenhearted in the Body.

 Re:

There is a program called "Cleansing Streams" out of Jack Hayford's work in California that I have had some experience with. It is a very good program, and I have seen it used mightily in deliverance from oppression and bondage.

 Re:

Romans 8:9-11 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Can the spirit of Satan dwell with the Spirit of God, The Spirit of Christ, The Spirit of God the Father, and the Holy Spirit who make their abode in the believer. Satan has nothing to do in Christ and the Christ that is in Believers.

John 14:30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

The only thing man has of Satan is a memory of the things of this world. I call them body pulls. They raise their ugly head sometimes and in pleasing the flesh instead of the spirit, man is tempted when he carried away by his own mind and the memory of the body pulls carry him away and into his own lust, enticed and lust conceives its own and brings forth sin. This is the only way a born again Christian with the Spirit of Christ can have anything to do with Satan, by his old man mind. Satan and his hoard have nothing in us, for Satan is defeated at the Cross and he cannot exist with the Spirit of Christ in the Believer.

Be very careful with Jessie Penn Lewis and the Word of Faith movements which give Satan power in their own teachings. "we must exercise our own faith to keep Satan away" "by faith we are glorified". "If you are sick or lack anything it is because your faith is not strong enough." These are just a few, which carry away believers in their own lust to receive what they are taught by faith they can receive in this world.

Who's Faith are we to depend on? Galatians 2:16-21 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid. For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God. I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

His Faith in us. In Christ by His Faith that dwells in me:

Phillip
