23 That same day Jesus was approached by some Sadduceesreligious leaders who say there is no resurrection from the dead. They posed this question: 24 Teacher, Moses said, If a man dies without children, his brother should marry the widow and have a child who will carry on the brothers name.[a] 25 Well, suppose there were seven brothers. The oldest one married and then died without children, so his brother married the widow. 26 But the second brother also died, and the third brother married her. This continued with all seven of them. 27 Last of all, the woman also died. 28 So tell us, whose wife will she be in the resurrection? For all seven were married to her. 29 Jesus replied, Your mistake is that you dont know the Scriptures, and you dont know the power of God. 30 For when the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage. In this respect they will be like the angels in heaven. 31 But now, as to whether there will be a resurrection of the deadhavent you ever read about this in the Scriptures? Long after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had died, God said,[b] 32 I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.[c] So he is the God of the living, not the dead. 33 When the crowds heard him, they were astounded at his teaching. Here is my question. Why does Jesus not use Daniel 12:2 in verse 32 as his defense for the resurection of the dead ?Daniel 12:2 (NLT) Many of those whose bodies lie dead and buried will rise up, some to everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting disgrace. Thanks and God bless from the land down under .. hehehe
I think it is because the sects of that day elevated the books of Moses above all the rest of scripture. So Jesus used that which they elevated most to pull a leg out from under their thinking.

A tupence?Whenever Jesus was questioned, he cut to the heart of the matter. Torah is the foundation of Judaism, and Genesis the revelation of origins, particularly Israel in history and belief. Without it, all the rest of the scriptures are invalid.Agapeo,g
The Sadducees only accepted the Torah as Scripture. Unlike the Pharisees, they did not accept the Nevi'im (prophets) or the Ketuvim (writings). Therefore, Jesus used the Torah to demonstrate the necessity of the resurrection, although He still rebuked them saying, "you don't know the Scriptures" (v.29). Jesus accepted the Tanakh (Torah, Nevi'im, Ketuvim), which is the equivalent of the Protestant Old Testament, except in a slightly different arrangement (Luke 24:44). The fundamental differences between the beliefs of the Sadducees and the Pharisees with regards to the accepted Scriptures - and hence the teachings about the resurrection - explains why a statement such as that given in Acts 23:6 is so significant.Hope that helps.Renoncer
