—Foreword by Charles Stanley

In Touch Ministries

The life and legacy of the British evangelist Leonard Ravenhill has been now written for the first time since his passing in 1994. His ministry spanned a majority of the 20th century, beginning in 1930 in the British Isles until 1958, then in America and worldwide until his death.

During the 1930’s and 1940’s, Ravenhill’s powerful evangelistic preaching ministry developed increasingly and his preaching was so effective and engaging that it drew traffic-jamming crowds in various places in Britain, even during the years of World War II, all over England and different parts of Wales, Scotland, and Ireland.
Charles Stanley says, “Leonard Ravenhill has left a tremendous legacy behind for us, but what bothers me is that it seems that he has almost been forgotten. It seems that many pastors today are not even interested in reading about a man like Leonard and are not interested in reading what he wrote or hearing what he preached. Today when I mention his name or his books, its like they stand there puzzled, not knowing who or what I am talking about. We have truly lost someone great in the passing of Leonard Ravenhill. ”This definitive biography covers his entire life from birth into adulthood, his calling to the ministry, training, and his launch into evangelistic work all over Britain, as well as his American years until his death at the age of eighty-seven in 1994.

—David Wilkerson

Leonard Ravenhill is one of the few men I’ve ever known who was a true prophet. I am delighted someone is finally writing this book.

—A. W. Tozer

Those who know Leonard Ravenhill recognize in him the specialist, the man sent from God, not to carry on the conventional work of the church, but to battle the priests of Baal on their own mountain-top, to shame the careless priest at the altar, to face the false prophet and to warn the people who are being led astray by him.

This to me is an indication of spiritual shallowness among christians and especially pastors, when they neglect to read classics that will challenge them as christians. They like their comfort zone of "cheap grace" and when someone cries out with a prophetic voice repent to wake up their conscience from slumber, they think this message its not for them. How many want to hear about "old fashion" holiness in Christ, who likes to self-examine himself in the light of God's word to see if he stands in faith or not.I agree that we should be Christ-conscience but before you are aware of the presence of Christ in your heart, you need to be aware of the presence of sin in your heart and that only thru honest confession and faith in the blood we are cleansed and set free. And only then, we will be conscience of the freedom that we have in Christ, with no condemnation or guilt because we are in Him.

You go to a christian bookstore and its sad that people are so much interested to buy "junk christian literature". What you find there is books about positive thinking, self-esteem and self-love, how to be a better you, books about signs and wonders or physical healing and how to speak in tongues, dispensationnalism, about rapture of the saints, how to be successful in life. We have christian novels to indulge our imagination in romanticism. Or books that talk about having faith in your faith, or faith without the works of faith. But what is missing in these books is godliness, christlikeness, holiness of heart, Christ-centerness, the message of the cross and the conditions of discipleship, how to be filled with the Holy Spirit by faith and bear fruit (there are lots of books on the subject of how to be filled with Holy Spirit or baptized with the Holy Ghost but they lack the message of the Cross and self-denial or dying to self, or purity of heart). Whoever experiences pentecostal power without purity or holiness of heart is deceived and has not received the Spirit of Christ.

Indeed. I look hard to find his books anywhere, and they are getting pretty hard to find. Many of them are out of print, so you have to hunt them down elsewhere, but they are getting pretty scarce comparatively.

Re: NEW BOOK: In Light of Eternity: The Life of Leonard Ravenhill

Thanks for posting this information Greg.

I am looking forward to the release of this book.

Leonard Ravenhill is one of my favorite writers and preachers.

I thank God that there are so many of his sermons recorded. We are blessed that he lived when recording was available.

God be with you,
Brian
