A young Afghan woman is teaching the world a thing or two about healing after she was left for dead in the mountains of her country.

Bibi Aisha is celebrating her 19th birthday in the U.S. after years of physical and mental abuse at the hands of her Taliban husband and his family.

Aisha's photo appeared in Time Magazine. She had her nose and ears cut off and was left to die when she tried to leave her husband.

Now she's starting a new life with the help of a facial prosthesis and the Grossman Burn Foundation.

"The reconstructive process is a very complicated, challenging, long-term process and she needs to be prepared for that. We help provide the loving atmosphere the care and emotional and psychological support that this young girl needs," the foundation's spokesperson Rebecca Grossman explained.

The foundation not only paid for her medical treatment, they covered her travel costs and found her a place to live as well.
