By the way, I look forward to using the updated NIV - on Bible Gateway. I wonder if makes everyone happy. Certainly we can respect the huge amount of research behind translation work today.

I read the article. It is interesting that the NIV 2011 is meant as a replacement for the original 1978 NIV. However, I haven't studied the new NIV enough to determine the rationale behind it. I have a feeling that the translation society simply wanted to make the original translation more accurate.

Now, I do think that the analogy with the KJV in the article is a bit flawed. The KJV went through several of its own revisions over a period of more than a hundred years. The current "King James Version" that most of us use today is the one eventually completed either the 1769 or 1850 version.
