 New NIV Version being released

It is interesting they are working on a new version of the NIV. when they released the TNIV with gender neutural translation there obviously was quite a negative reaction. I use the older translation of the NIV much!

it will be interesting to see what changes they make to the translation. here is a website about the process:

Re: New NIV Version being released

Go to the very bottom of this article and you will find more things to watch out for in the "new" version. It will be interesting if they correct those things, too.

http://www.av1611.org/kjv/tniv_intro.html

TNIV & THE LORD JESUS
TNIV & CHRIST
TNIV & WITH CHILD
TNIV & HOMOSEXUALITY
TNIV & MASCULINE PRONOUNS
TNIV & MAN
TNIV & FATHERS
TNIV & SISTERS
TNIV & MORE BLUNDERS

This is not my website and I am not KJV ONLY. I am KJV Preferred because I fellowship with any believer regardless of what Bible they read.

Regardless of this website's "bent", this link is the most thorough info I have found on the TNIV.

 Re:

I've seen KJV/NIV parallel bibles...that seems like a good idea. A good literal coupled with a paraphrase to expound a litte.

 Re:

Websters Dictionary helps, too. :-)

Literal Version does not help when verses are missing or big parts of verses are missing.

Ok, now, I am not picking a fight. Far from it, but can we please educate new believers?

Gotta love this one. I wonder if they will fix it, also.
1 Corinthians 6:8-10, TNIV
8 Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers and sisters.
9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor practicing homosexuals
10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

Why not "practicing" murderers, or "practicing" liars, or "practicing" slave traders?

The fact is – every time "practicing" shows up in the TNIV it ONLY applies to "homosexuals". And the fact is – every time "homosexual" shows up in the TNIV it is blurred with "practicing". There is no basis in the Greek text for adding the word "practicing".

Why do the homosexuals get special treatment? Hmm. . .

Boy, that's a phrase that has gotten many a man in trouble.

It will be interesting to see what they plan to do with this. I still use the original 1978 version of the NIV -- along with the NASB, several spanish versions and, of course, the current edition of the KJV. I still consider the 1978 NIV as the best academic version from the sources that its translators used.

I might send an email and try to find out their purpose for this revision. I agree that the gender neutral backlash might be the cause.

 Re:

I hope they will just correct those portions long critiziced and debated, and leave the text otherwise as is.
As a one day old Christian, I wandered into a bookstore only to stand dumbfounded before a large shelf of oh-so-many different Bible versions. Using my new found ability to talk to God, I asked Him to help me choose the right one for me, and ended up coming home exited with a brandnew NIV Bible(my english was basic at the time but I could understand this translation for the most part). He has taught me much from that first Bible and all I have memorized is from it. I would love nothing more than having all potential inacuracies reviewed and corrected if necessary, without any other changes. As for the TNIV, may it be put out of print now and disappear quickly from every bookstore!

 Re:

I too prefer the KJV and find it easier than other versions that by attempting to make improvements have done the opposite.

I see a certain repetition of words in the KJV that work as spiritual headlines to get my attention that I do not see in other translations

As far as the male female thing goes........ all of mankind has a soul that is female that comes from a male spirit (although the word 'spirit" is a neuter noun) just as Eve came from Adam.

God is male and female (spirit and soul) and so is man thus man was made in the image of God.

Jesus as the Son is definitely male and so is God the Father....... yet Jesus is the flesh manifestation of the soul (female) of God who is spirit (male).

Man being in both the image and likeness is the plan so Paul said "let this mind be in you that was in "Christ Jesus"

Any translation that clouds that being the will of God is IMO missing the mark

Blessings

 Re:

Lesserlight.

I am sorry, but no where in the Bible can you find that any part of the Trinity is female. Its just not in there. To teach otherwise is to teach an unbiblical practice made by man.

The only comparison that can be made is through the HS sent as a helper, which in no way implies that the HS is female.

 Re:

Miccah

As far as the word "trinity" goes I do not care one way or the other about a word that does not appear in the Bible.

But..........

The soul is female both in its use and in the Hebrew language...... that you can take to the bank as well as God does have a soul.

The word "spirit" although gender free in the original Hebrew is always referred to in the male tense throughout the scriptures.

 Re:

The NIV 2011 went live on Biblegateway.com and Biblica.com. You can check out an interview with the chair of the translation committee at
http://www.dashhouse.com/2010/11/interview-with-douglas-moo-on-the-updated-niv/

and the translator's notes at

http://www.biblegateway.com/niv/Translators-Notes.pdf

and an introductory video from the committee

http://www.niv-cbt.org/niv-2011-overview/video-featuring-dr-moo/

outside sources are commenting that its about 95% the old NIV 2-3% TNIV and 2-3% new.
