 We all need to Repent

1 Corinthians 8:11-13
11For through your knowledge he who is weak is ruined, the brother for whose sake Christ died.
12And so, by sinning against the brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ.
13Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause my brother to stumble.

We all need to repent. As salt we have lost our flavor. Our most viewed threads contain poisonous fruit. We do not love our brother, if we did, we would not behave the way we do. We must repent of our transgression. Our brothers come and view the discussion boards and they come across the stumbling blocks that we throw in front of them. The stumbling blocks we pull out of the idols in our heart. The Idol of traditions, The Idol of theology, the Idol of doctrines, many, myself included have made Idols out of Calvinism, or Arminianism, or taught the traditions of men as the word of God. And from our wicked hearts proceed the stumbling blocks. Because we suppose we know anything. Our knowledge makes us arrogant. But love edifies. Shall we not instead speak of our love for Christ and each other? This is how the world will know us. By our love. Remember the lesson of the growing seed, the sower sleeps day and night, and knows not how it grows. We must humble ourselves and seek the face of Jesus, not seek to know something we ought not to, there is knowledge that puffs up.
Many brothers come limping out of the churches were they have grown accustomed to the Idol and they find sermonindex. Then they see us eating the same food that they used to eat when they were accustomed to the Idol. And as a result eat the food that defiles their conscious. We want revival but we look exactly the same as those who need to be revived. Should not every post we write be about the love of Christ and the love of each other? Is that not what is missing in the churches today? Many may say it is preaching on repentance and holiness, but true preaching on these things stems from love, otherwise the preacher is just a clanging cymbal. Many of the lost sheep come here and look to us as examples. Should they not see Christ in every word we speak so that they can imitate us as we imitate Christ? We are selfish. We do not think of these wounded sheep that the Lord Jesus went out to get. We only think of ourselves, our calling, our reputation. And in all this we lose the testimony of Jesus.
We may have great liberty to discuss many things amongst ourselves, but this is a public forumn and they need to see Christ. But we don’t care about them, just ourselves. We only care about stuffing our bellies, not about pouring forth rivers of living water. He is so glorious we could speak of him here on the boards for a lifetime and the internet would not be big enough to hold all the things we can say about him. Oh the rivers that could pour through this discussion board. It is a revival of Christ in the church that we need. We all must unite around Jesus to Glorify him and no other. So often we seek to glorify ourselves at the expense of causing our brother to stumble. Many of you may say that this is not me. It is all of us, we all need to repent. I am so sorry Lord.

Re: We all need to Repent

hi, thank you so much for the post...sounds like the Holy Ghost to me...a lot of the problem stems from the fact that some think their gift is to be a watchman and because paul rebuked peter and others,we think we can.paul was responsible for his children that he led and so are we... it is a good thing for a pastor to worn his sheep of wolves that might hurt them...no where are we to go into someone elses homes uninvited and tell their children what to do or who to be wary of because it could turn out to be us that they need to fear...i live in a bible school setting and am amazed how many think they are called to be critics and have never been on the field or pastored or even lived a day by faith in their lives.jimp

May our speech be seasoned with
HIS grace; may we speak the truth
in love, may we build up one
another in the most holy faith.

Can you clarify what you mean by "Idol"?

BTW, excelent post. Much needed lately. I too have noticed in myself and others, an arrogant attitude in posts. The sad thing is that such arrogance is in regard to "non-essentials" many times. We make mountains out of molehills. We bite, cut, and choke each other with our words and attitudes toward one another over secondaries. this should not be. Thanks for the exhortation and reminder.

1Cr 8:7

However not all men have this knowledge; but some, being accustomed to the idol until now, eat food as if it were sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.,

Anything that is a Golden Calf, whether it be doctrines, traditions, denominations, theologies.

Apostate churches are devoted to these things not God. So when those who are leaving those churches find the sound preaching here and want to join the discussion they are still accustomed to these Idols. And when they see us doing the same thing the denominations do they may slip back into there old ways and be defiled.

For example lets say a certain church holds Calvinism in such High esteem it becomes their God and they will attack anyone who comes against it. A brother leaves there because the spirit draws him out of such a lifeless church, then he see's brothers on this site doing the exact same thing. Maybe it isn't even an Idol to those on this site. It does not matter, it was to that certain brother and when he sees his brothers who have been on sermonindex for a long time time doing what the Idolaters at his old church were doing his conscience is strengthened to go back to eating at the table of his Idol

1Cr 8:10
For if someone sees you, who have knowledge, dining in an idol's temple, will not his conscience, if he is weak, be strengthened to eat things sacrificed to idols?

It is important that we be aware of those who are still limping and weak from being in an apostate church.

1Cr 8:13
Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause my brother to stumble.

I would rather never speak of Calvinism again then cause my brother to stumble.

If we know nothing but Christ and him crucified on these boards then we will surely bear much fruit.

 Re:

Thanks for the clarification. Oh that we would all see this kind of idolatry going on in our churches, and repent.

Truth will offend, even for those who are seeking it.

I completely agree with your post Brother and I am glad you had a better nerve to express it as I would have loved to have posted it myself.

 Re:

Very good post, MyVeryHeart.

We are to come to Jesus with our WHOLE heart and not be JOINED to ANYTHING in our heart but HIM. As He gives us more light we are to respond to it by coming to it and repenting of any darkness in our heart.

Being led out of darkness into progressively more light is a process (sanctification) that the Holy Spirit is constantly doing in our lives. Purging, cleansing, purifying us. It is good that we do not harden our heart to his voice and remain teachable.

Once we are saved, we have a "walk" to walk.

Obedience is not legalism. At least Jesus did not think so.

Heb 5:8 - Though He were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which He suffered.
Heb 5:9 - And being made perfect, He became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that OBEY Him.

Be ye holy for I am holy. 1 Pet 1:16

Holiness is to be experienced and walked in.
2 Peter 3:11, 1 Pet 1:15, Titus 1:8,

1 Thess 5:27 most translations today omit the word "holy" in many verses now in the NT such as this one. But we are to be "holy" brethren. I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the HOLY brethren.

1 Tim 2:8 - We just lift up hands now in most versions, not holy hands.

2 Peter 1:21 - For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but HOLY men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

In 2 Peter 1:21 it is no longer HOLY MEN, but "humans" in some versions and just men in others.

When the "Word" does not emphasize holiness anymore we should not wonder why we don't hear it in messages or see it in people's lives. We're just supposed to be men, not holy men.

Holiness in thought, purity of mind and heart is what the Holy Spirit is after and this is not a popular message today, especially by publishers of new bible versions.

I have often thought why people can easily believe that Satan has a counterfeit for everything that God does but he would never counterfeit God's Word. Of course he would and does! That was the very first thing he did in the garden. He counterfeited (changed) God's Word and he has been watering it down, changing and perverting it ever since. But we have been assured by all the Greek and Hebrew experts that all their versions are good for us. Here, eat this, it's good for you. A Holy Bible that is not holy anymore. New versions have a Jesus that is not the Christ anymore, either or God's "begotten" Son. He is just the Son or "a" Son. New versions are looking more and more like the Jehovah Witness Bible. In fact the TNIV (being touted as the best version) is almost a carbon copy of the JW Bible.

(for a good reference/chart on counterfeits of the Holy Spirit look at the back of War on the Saints by Jessie Penn-Lewis)

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Pet 5:8
