Police say Edward McMillion of Rochester was pronounced dead at Rochester General Hospital after he was rescued from the water around 8:30 p.m.Police say McMillon was jumping off Charlotte Pier with two other young men."They all jumped in together and the rest came back up except for one," Daniela Vargas, 17, said. "He never came back up."Vargas says she and her friends were near the pier when it happened. Hundreds of people crowded along the pier as Monroe County Sheriff's boats, Coast Guard teams and the Rochester Police Department SCUBA team responded to the 911 call.Police say the water is about 15 feet deep in the area where McMillon drowned and say it is a risky place to be swimming."There's no swimming allowed there," Rochester Police Department West Side Commander Michael Ciminelli said. "This is a pier. It's dangerous. Certainly it's not a place that people should be getting into water."Some of the teens questioned why it took so long for the SCUBA team to pull McMillon from the water, but Ciminelli says the officers have to be specially trained to dive and operated according to protocol. For more Rochester, N.Y. news go to our website www.whec.com.
