The lyrics of many modern Christian songs focus on MYself, MY blessing, MY feelings, MY devotion, MY benefit. Jesus becomes my servant, and receive the blessing I am entitled to.

I would agree whole-heartedly on this point. I go to a great church, but often I think the songs are a little selfish. ("and now, leading worship, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes") There have definitely been times when I, too, wanted to just sit down and read my Bible. I've often felt cheated after services that were just dry. It is the responsibility of the worship leader and pastor to be filled and walking worthy of their calling before they try to lead a congregation.

On the other hand...

All the talk about the volume and type of music is a little too much on the preference side. Any music, no matter what style, can be satanic. Any music, no matter what style, can be holy. I understand the volume being too loud to enter in because of pain. My dad didn't participate in his churches worship for years because of that. All I know is that bands such as Leeland and Jeremy Camp have greatly impacted my life and that of my family. Matter of fact, listen to a song by Leeland called "Tears from the Saints" and tell me it isn't annointed. It's about the person worshipping and not the tools used. I think Keith Green could have banged two sticks together, sang a song, and we could have called it church. Just my opinion and it could change tomorrow if God shows me something different.

God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Yes. That is what needs to happen. All disagreements aside, if this happens, it will be annointed.

 Re:

I sort of agree with Matt on this one. I think most of it comes down to preference. I've seen all the forms of 'worship' come out to be more about self than about truely worshipping YHWH.

As for the MY and I stuff that does seem to be a bit much then again go read the psalms these are personal prayers meant to be song and many include man MY's and I's.

Maybe this is your experience... but I've heard people talk down contemporary Christian music by telling everyone what goes on at concerts... and I have NEVER seen it.

I am sorry Krispy, it was not my intent to take a side on the issue, I guess I should have made that more clear. I am completely neutral on the issue of music. I would run from a preferential discussion about it on a forum like I would from a petition to ban the industrial use of dihydrogen monoxide. I guess I should have stated that. I apologize if my story was not edifying.

Not at all, brother... the problem is that if I come down on one side or the other on this issue of music... the other side attacks me.

I'm not on either side. I think there are some genuine issues with Contemporary Christian music in it's current state. On the other hand, I don't think we can throw a blanket over the whole thing and call it evil.

And I've spent some time on this forum articulating why and do not have time to repeat it here today. Thus my caution to newer people who may not have read everything I've written on here.... don't judge my position by one or two sentences today.
