China Christians sent to labour camps

Police in northern China have sentenced five Christian church leaders to two years of "education through labour" after they protested against a police raid on their church, a rights group said Wednesday.

The punishments came after a Shanxi province court last week sentenced five other leaders of the same church to up to seven years in prison for trying to protect the unregistered church from demolition, said ChinaAid, a US-based Christian rights group.

I am curious, what would have happened if they didn't step in to protect the building from being demolished and/or stood in the way of police?

 Re:

Sooner or later they would probably still have been arrested.

Let's say the buildings were demolished without them trying to prevent. Well the police have theeir names etc. The christians would have went somewhere else to fellowship "unregistered" The police would hunt them down there as well.

There are times when we must take certain stands. We had best be careful how we judge fellow christians when they take stands that we think are just being rebellious against the governing authority. When we think, "oh they are not walking in the Spirit as they should." etc etc.

I believe they were led by the Spirit in this, for the enemy of such injustice (aside from God) is international public opinion (which God can use), which the Chinese government does respond to.

The question is not whether to stand in protest or not, for there is no clear Biblical doctrine on this; the real question is - what is God's will as revealed by the Spirit?
