Re: Baptism of Fire

There are many workings of The Holy Spirit in the life of a believer, and I know I certainly need the fire of The Holy Ghost to purify me,so I can be molded into the image of Christ.

 Re:

Does not purification come only after death?

I hear lots of people speak of purification and usually they are legalists or cultic.

Did Christ not both cleanse an purify you when you believed?

Just thinking out loud with no offence meant brother

 Re:

"I have come to send fire upon the earth,
and how I wish it were already kindled!!
But I have a baptism to be baptized with.
and how distressed I am until it is accomplished!"

One of the reasons Jesus came was to kindle
the fire of faith, the baptism of the Spirit;
a holy passion for the kingdom and the will
of GOD.

Let us be consumed with a passion for the
cause of the cross and the kingdom of GOD!!

 Re:

Certainly Christ cleanseth us when the blood is applied to our life, but we daily need to let our minds be renewed by the washing of the water of the word.

That's true.......but its not purification.

Those who have always sought to "Purify the Church" have always been Wolves in Sheep's clothing or misguided at the best.

A quoted scripture does not prove anything unless it has been experienced. I have heard many preachers who preach purification, but upon examining their lives and motives to preach they are far from purified.

I am not suggesting that this is the case with any brother posting on this thread; my aim, as is your, is to stimulate godly debate.

Dear Pilgrim,

I'm not a brother but I would like to try to help with this answer, if that is ok. I'd like to possibly cause you to think more about this since your statements caused me to think much more on purity!! (huge grin)

1 Timothy 4.12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

I do not believe that anywhere in the Bible supports your statement: "Does not purification come only after death?" In 1 Tim 4.12, what Paul is telling Timothy is not for use after death, it is for use in the present.

Paul goes on in 2 Tim 2.22, "Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart."

In 2 Cor 6.4,5,6 Paul tells us in v4 "in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God... v6 By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost..." We are to approve ourselves in this life, not in the next.

Also in 2 Peter 1:5,6,7,8... Peter says "giving all diligence, add... v8 For if these things be in you and abound..." If they be in you (now, in this present life) and abound "they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ"

All these things help us to purify ourselves. In Numbers 8.7 And thus shalt thou do unto them, to cleanse them: Sprinkle water of purifying upon them, and let them shave all their flesh, and let them wash their clothes, and so make themselves clean."

I find it curious that they used the word "shave all their flesh and then it ends with and so make themselves clean. Everything in the New Testament is about our getting rid of our flesh to become like Christ! I know it's subjective but that is how I see it! Like you, I don't wish to argue!

God bless you brother, I will try to tackle your last question in another post.

Is there anything that we have to do or need to do after we first believed? Or are we always clean and pure from the first time we believed, never having to put forth any upkeep? Like maintenance? If you don't perform upkeep on your car or house, it will eventually fall down around you!

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
1Jo 1:7

Key words here: "but if we walk in the light..."

Paul said in 1 Cor 9.27, "27 Instead, I discipline my body and bring it under strict control, so that after preaching to others, I myself will not be disqualified."

He didn't say he'd go to hell and all would be lost but he did say that he would be disqualified (or KJV castaway). I guess he would be considered legalistic by our standards today, eh?

I'm just trying to point out that although he was an born again apostle of Jesus Christ, he didn't consider everything (cleansed and purified), done and sealed when he became a believer; no, he continually disciplined himself and his flesh and did not let it get out of control.

God bless you Pilgrim!!

I hear the scriptures and agree, however, the question still remains unanswered:

Purification means to be pure, holy, undefiled, without sin.

When does this happen and how?

Does it happen because a person tries hard?
Or is it when we see Him? For then and only then shall we be like Him?

Very interesting and thanks for you provocative and well researched posts.

I don't know the answers that you have asked! I'm just going to work on doing what I know to do today and tomorrow!

God bless you!
