I won't slip into worship music bashing, but I agree with the thread.There are exceptions, and some is taste vs substantive issues. I listen to Lecrae and Shai Linne, for example. Linne, as another poster said, is like an exegetical rapper. What I have heard of him is like Piper rap. :). And I know I am a 48 year old overweight white guy from the South, but I like hip hop style of music. So, while I do not listen to...and never did listen to....secular rap, it is a fun and thought provoking thing for me to occasionally listen to sound gospel lyric and testimony hip hop. Mostly, I listen to BBN elevator music or secular oldies pop.

Some of the satanic quotes from musicians are satanic because the musicians are satanic- I.e that they are satanists or they really aren't but that is their "schtick". Some may be due to youthful cockiness like the Bon Jovi quote. I doubt he would really kill his mother for rock n roll. Some lyrics are like poems-- they may not actually be endorsing a hellish view but may be trying to describe how someone is feeling, which may be hellish or despairing. Life is not always a bowl of cherries. Now obviously most rock songs are not written with a Christian world view in mind. But their intent may not be satanic, either.

The average church in America has more softball teams or golf leagues than they do prayer meetings.Go into any church and ask how many people attend the prayer meetings (if there are any) compared to any game nights, sports team etc. We can't wonder why things are as they are. I've played on church ball teams and golf leagues. I liked to play ball, so why not play with other Christians? Better than watching TV. And it was fun. And I've actually had some pretty deep theological discussions on the golf course. But I do agree that those things should be in addition to a prayer meeting, not in place of. But a word about prayer meetings. I have been involved in only one that was powerful. The others were dry as dust and I went only because I felt I should. I shouldn't have because my time would have been better spent elsewhere.
