Modesty issue and Calvin Kline jeans

We were discussing these new Calvin Kline ads that are being put up here and other places. They are pornographic and completely inappropriate . I am not going to post a link because the one that I saw was disgusting and not acceptable for this site to view. I was shocked at the ads, but I was even more shocked by peoples reaction to them. People thinking that they are no big deal and stuff like that sells so why not use it. Is it me or does it seem that wickedness and evil is so much more accepted and in your face then it did even just a few years ago? The messages these kinds of things send to young people is awful. I see it all the time though, young women barely covered with some guy hanging all over her, they are not even children any more, by the time they hit twelve and thirteen, they dress and behave like miniature versions of the world. There was one young man who I was sharing with who told me that he just could not listen to the youth group leader at the church because, the leader was sharing with them about purity and abstinence This young man said that purity is not really possible and that it was completely stupid in this day and age to ask that of young people when most adults don't do it.

I guess I just needed to speak this out. I suppose things will only get worse. Its summer time here and the billboards will be up and I will have to really be mindful of where I am looking.

rdg

One word of caution, I was shown this ad without knowing what it was before hand. I would not have looked at it had I known what it had entailed. I am sorry that I now have these images in my head. Use caution if you should Google them!

Amazing you should post this today, as I was musing yesterday about posting a thread on the topic of modesty in men's jeans, as I've noticed they are far more revealing than they used to be, and I can't help but think this is just as deliberate on the part of the designers, as it was previously, that they should not be revealing.

I'll take your advice not to google the ads.

Ask the Lord to take them away.

 Re:

Some of us here were continuing this talk about modesty in general over lunch. For the most part we all agreed that there is a need for more teaching on what the Bible says about being modest. The one thing that really surprised me was some of the different attitudes that the young men in our group had as compared to the women. Most of the young men believed it was important to teach on modesty for the women, but did not really think it was an issue for the guys at all? They did not even think twice about how they dressed. The guys also thought that it was way worse for a over weight woman to cover themselves, more so then a a skinny girl to do so. I personally don't think it matters what body shape you are, we are required to dress modestly. The guys said their reasoning for this attitude was that no one wants to look at a heavy girl with a bunch of flab hanging out. The point is they should not be looking at either one, heavy or not. And as far as guys not having to worry about dressing modestly, there are a lot of women who struggle with fantasizing about guys in today's world.

what do you all think, does it matter if your a guy or girl when it comes to modesty? Also does body size matter where modesty is concerned?
Just wondering what some older mature Christians have to say.

 Re:

Modesty is modesty. It is not based on a persons sex, height, or weight. Heavy or skinny, man or woman it makes no difference.

If the clothing I wear, attracts attention to my body, and it causes a woman to stumble in her thoughts, I have dressed immodestly, committed a sin, and caused her to sin.

If a woman dresses, in such a way as to bring attention to her body, and it causes me to stumble in my thoughts, she has dressed immodestly, committed a sin, and caused me to sin.

We tell our kids to be modest, but then let them go to track meets at school, and play volleyball wearing cloths that would have gotten them arrested just 50 years ago for indecency.

God help us we need revival and the complete change in the moral climate.

Re: Modesty issue and Calvin Kline jeans

rdg,

It is gratifying to read of a young person who is concerned about modesty.

Now about the Calvin Klein ads....years ago 'Guess' ran full page ads in a magazine - and I do not remember which one. I tell you it it was so vulgar, disgusting - worse then this one - that I resolved to never, ever buy a pair of 'Guess' jeans for my boys, even if they were at a thrift shop, or on a sale. I pursued a private boycott of Guess jeans. Likely they never noticed it but that does not matter. I was not going to finance an ad like that with my purchase. There were plenty of other jeans on the market, my boys did not need them.

rdg, there are some males here in our community that dress much worse then the ad you mentioned. I started to describe it but thought the better of it. But will tell you something the Lord led me to do.

Last week I went to get the mail at the PO when I saw this fellow jump-starting a vehicle. I looked at him and he smiled and I returned that smile. Then I noticed his trousers and it was vulgar. Then I heard a voice say "go ahead and say it!" I thought "really?" "Yes, go ahead." By this time I was in the door, got my mail and when I came out he was putting the charger in the trunk and he again looked at me and I said it...His response? He just smiled. RDG, I have no idea whether there was any impact but that is not important: I had to be obedient. For a female to tell a young male what I did is highly unlikely, but I am old enough to be his grandma and grandmas can get by with a few things occasionally! :-o

Sister, may I encourage you to keep your spirit sensitive to this issue. It will only get worse. You will need the Holy Spirit to give you guidance and He will if you are willing to be taught. If you want you can google "Modest clothing" and you may get more insights. I googled 'modest swimwear' several years ago and found a site that sold modest swimwear. Hey! I had no clue there is such a thing! Anyways, I found the site and checked out closely the swimwear featured and then sewed one myself since I am a seamstress. It was easy and lots less expensive. This is what I wear when we go white water rafting.

God bless you sister...if you want more info, you may PM me and I will see if I can help you..

Ginnyrose,

You are and have been such a consistent blessing to this forum/community for years. Somehow finding out that you are a grandma who goes white water rafting puts the cherry on top.:)

Thanks for being Ginny.

Mike
