 Ephesians 1-2

We have been studying the book of Ephesians in our men's study for the past 3 weeks. Yesterday I came to this understanding while I was reading chapter two.

I am not interested in the thoughts of what men have written but what Scripture reveals....

In this first section of chapter one of Ephesians, Paul is refering to the Jews first....
................................................
Eph 1:3 Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly [places] in Christ,

Eph 1:4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love,

Eph 1:5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,

Eph 1:6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

Eph 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace

Eph 1:8 which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence,

Eph 1:9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself,

Eph 1:10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both [fn] which are in heaven and which are on earth--in Him.

Eph 1:11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,

Eph 1:12 that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.
................................................

After this section of Scripture Paul then speaks to the gentiles.....

.................................................

Eph 1:13 In Him you also [trusted], after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,

Eph 1:14 who [fn] is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

.................................................

In chapter two, Paul again points this out to the gentiles that he is writing to....

................................................

Eph 2:11 Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh--who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands--

Eph 2:12 that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

Eph 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

Eph 2:14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation,

Eph 2:15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, [that is], the law of commandments [contained] in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man [from] the two, [thus] making peace,

.................................................

You see, the Jew through the law given to Moses was instructed to seperate themselves from this world. The law of Moses created "the middle wall of seperation" between the Jew and the gentile.

If one were to survey all of Paul's writings this theme is carried thoughout his epistles. Think of the Scriptures in Romans...

..............................................

"for the Jew first and also for the gentile"

................................................

Also in 2 Timothy....

................................................
2Ti 2:20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor.

2Ti 2:21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.
...............................................

What does Scripture reveal?

In Christ
Jeff
