PCUSA Panel OKs Gays' Ordination

RICHMOND, Va. - Gays and lesbians moved a step closer to ordination in the Presbyterian church after a legislative committee approved a measure that would partly lift the church's ban on gay ministers.

The proposal, passed by the panel Tuesday, will go before the national legislative assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) for a full vote later this week.

If passed, it would allow individual churches to dismiss a 1978 interpretation of church law that prohibits gays from being ordained as ministers, elders or deacons.

Gays and lesbians in relationships could still be barred from ordination under a separate church law passed in 1997, but liberals said removal of the 1978 restriction would be a major step toward full inclusion for gays in the church.

"It provides opportunities for gays and lesbians they did not have before," said Doug Nave, who serves on the board of the Covenant Network, a group of Presbyterians lobbying for gay ordination. "We think it will show that Christians can disagree on something and still be part of a single community of faith."

Sadly this goes against most of the bible and Church Discpline layed out in the Scriptures. To have sodomy as a besetting sin amongst heathen who do not agree with Christ and the bible is one thing, but to have proffessed Christians being sodomites is a whole other scenario.

1 Corinthians 5:1-6 - It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife. And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you. For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed, In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

1 Corinthians 5:11-13 - But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

The scriptures above show that for an unbeliever to act in sin is normal what else are they supposed to do. But for a professed believer to still act pumpously in their sin is a great evil and God will judge it, but rather even God tells us through holy scripture that we are to judge that believer amongst us and show Gods standard.

"Professed" is the operative word.

"Why do you call Me, `Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?" (Luke 6:46)
