Can deception be defeated!

With a movement like the Toronto Blessing or the Lakeland Thing can it be defeated in prayer.
Are movements like this fixed or can a thing like this be defeated in prayer.

 Re: Can deception be defeated!

The way to defeat deception is to declare and
proclaim the gospel, the whole gospel truth!!

 Re:

I dont know that the movement can be defeated, but eventually all movements die out anyway... with the exception of the Truth.

As for defeating deception, yes, it can be. My own life is a great example. I was deceived before I was saved, thinking me and Jesus had it all worked out... even tho I lived a wicked, wretched life.

Then I got saved and got swept up in the WOF movement. But thru the prayers of many friends and family... we came out of that and into the truth.

So on a personal level, yes it can be defeated by the Spirit of God and the Word.

I agree.

On the personal level I do not think the devil will never quit working to deceive you. It always begins by rationalizing the Word of God, hence its importance to do a systematic study of it in addition to know its Creator.

Deception always begins with "Yea, hath God said...?" It is easy to detect it in a person when confronted by their response. If they become argumentative you know they have gone through a process of justifying their position. How do I know? Been there, done that. Human nature and the devil's methods have not changed sin the fall.

Methinks that to combat deception on a wide scale begins with the individual and let it grow from there keeping in mind its lure and appeal will always be with us because man is by nature religious and how is this going to be lived out remains the issue.

Blessings,

 Re:

Yes Deception will be and can be defeated that is what the book of Revelation talks about to some extent. Revelation 11:9 says

And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Satan is the source of all Deception according to this verse. however he will be cast down and dealt with and according to Revelation 20:10 and matthew 25:41 he will be cast into the lake of fire so Deception can be and will be defeated

2. Deception has a purpose. Read 2 Thess 2:3-11
it says

3Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

4Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

5Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

6And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.

7For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

8And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

9Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

10And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

11And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

Deception comes because people just do not the love the truth(The Word of God) and according to jesus in Matthew 24 DECEPTION will be the beginning of the birth pangs that start and birth the great tribulation. However, Deception will be utterly destroyed in the end and can in our personal lives be defeated now with the help of the Holy Spirit. Have a blessed one

Amen and let's never forget it. A blessed hope.

Just to follow this up with a couple of verses from 2nd Timothy.

25In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

26And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

2 Timothy 2:25-26

Notice that to recover from deception requires repentance. These movements are sinful and to be deceived by them is sinful. It is desperately subtle, but nevertheless sinful. Probably the sin of pride (which trips me up constantly). As you said, it is only with the help of the Holy Spirit that deception can be defeated.

I've a few friends who have become mesmerised by the Lakeland revival. When I say that I don't think it is genuine they get quite confused, as if to say, 'How can you think that? This is what we've been waiting for'.

To know the truth and to have the real joy of salvation is such a blessing, but it is all of God and His wonderful grace and i certainly don't deserve it. It's only because God opened my eyes that I repented. This will happen for others with prayer and honest Gospel preaching.

At the same time, God has given the world the Bible and there is a responsibility to study it. We are easy prey for Satan if we neglect this. I personally have discovered that it is a battle to study the Bible. There's always a distraction. Has anyone else found this? The distractions are most often church activities.

Will finish this with this verse

Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

1 Corinthians 10:12

 Re:

This question is one that i have asked as well and should our prayer be that deception be unveiled and uprooted?

2 Thess 2 talks about the lawless one being revealed and then a most curious statement in verse 10,

Quote:
"...and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved."

To love the truth...

This lawless one comes with all false signs and wonders, deceiving all those who are perishing.

They love the signs and wonders, they love the bringer of these signs and wonders and will therefore perish.

2 Thess 2:11
Quote:
For this reason God will send upon them a deluding unfluence so that they will believe what is false, in order that they all may be judged who did not believe in the truth, BUT TOOK PLEASURE IN WICKEDNESS.

So, I agree, deception is wickedness (as davym stated) and must be repented of.

Can we pray? YES and we should that we should not fall prey to these wiles of the evil one and that others would be saved from its influence.
Will anyone else comment...?

DavyM: i have noticed my eyes drooping when I go to read, esp. at nite. Wow, this is so subtle and sometimes i get up early from my studies because i rationalize that i just need some rest.

How do we fight and take a violent means against this?

The Bible is where we learn the truth and must be placed in top priority in our lives. It cannot be neglected. if it is neglected we suffer to be led, subtly, down the wide road that leads to destruction.

I dare say there's many on here familiar with that problem. I would say it's fair in many cases to say that you just need some rest. Rest and sleep are important.

30And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.
31And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.32And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.
Mark 6:30-32

You kind of answered this with your next statement.

Quote:

Spot on Ruach because it's not like we don't have a hunger for the Word. It's just that with the commitments of our lives to necessities such as work, family, church activities etc (these are my own examples) we use up a lot of our energy. The thing about Bible study and, more importantly, prayer, is that when I devote time to these, the other activities in my life become more fulfilling and God is more a part of them. It's wonderful, but it's a battle to keep it going because the devil seems to put obstacles in the way. Satan knows where Christians get their power. He knows in our own strength we are useless.

5I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
John 15:5

I think the secret is to be constantly on our guard. Assess how we are spending our time on a regular basis. And of course we must pray, pray, pray!! Stay close to Christ. Because if this hole is allowed to develop in our lives then deception is inevitable. And it comes in many different forms and Satan seems to know where to hurt us most.

Take heart in the fact that every believer faces this battle and we're all here to support each other. Moreover

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
1 John 4:4

God bless

David
