Peace be unto you Peace be unto you. These words are a type of Jesus' first appearing to our hearts when He comes to bring us His peace and to teach us to trust Him and to love Him. But there is a second peace which He has to give. Jesus said unto them again, Peace be unto you. There is a "peace," and there is an 44 again peace." There is a peace with God, and there is the peace of God, which passeth all understanding (Philippians 4:7). It is the deeper peace that we need before we can serve Him or be used for His glory. While we are burdened with our own cares, He cannot give us His. While we are occupied with ourselves, we cannot be at leisure to serve Him. Our minds will be so filled with our own anxieties that we would not be equal to the trust which He requires of us. Before He can entrust us with His work, He wants to deliver us from every burden and anxiety. Peace, perfect peace, in this dark world of sin? The blood of Jesus whispers peace within. He keeps in perfect peace those whose minds are stayed on HIM.
quote "while we are burdened with our own cares, He cannot give us His"As this is true, He also tells us to "cast your care upon Him, for He careth for you"When we in TRUST,take everything to God in prayer,then He carries that burden,and we are free to receive His peace, and His joy. It doesn't mean that our hearts may not be heavy at times, Jesus at times had a heavy heart, but because He always TRUSTED His Father, He never lost His joy and peace. Although on the cross and in Gethsemane I believe He had to experience the loss of those things temporarily on our behalf. Even then He endured the cross for the joy that was set before Him. Jesus carried the burden of the whole world on His heart while ministering on this earth,and if He was able to have peace and joy in all that(because He trusted His Father, and cast all His care upon His Father) then I know that He wants us to have the same peace and joy. He prayed in John 17:13 "that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves."I don't think there is a one time deliverance for anxieties over burdens, I think it is a daily walk that keeps us depending on God. And as we depend on Him by trusting, casting "our" cares on Him, we grow in faith and maturity, and are able to see "His" cares more clearly,and wholeheartedly give ourselves to His service.Thank you for posting, we all need to be reminded that we are not supposed to be preoccupied with ourselves, and losing our peace so to speak, is usually a good indicator that we have been. bonni
