The Lamb of God God made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21 In the Old Testament, a family would pick out a lamb without spot or blemish, their only purpose was to care for it until the Passover, which happened once a year. They would raise that lamb as a cherished possession, taking the utmost care to keep it blemish free, they would live with it, feed it, bathe it, and I would imagine love it. When the Passover would come around, the head of the household would present the lamb to the High Priest, laying his hands on the head of the lamb and confessing his sins and the sins of his family. After this the High Priest would examine the lamb determine if it was a lamb without spot or blemish and then sacrifice it; the blood of the lamb would cover the sins of the family for the year. Hebrews 9:22 says that the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. The one thing that really grabbed my attention about this is that the High Priest didnt look at the man or even the family presenting the lamb; but that he looked at the lamb to see if it was worthy or not. You see the man or the magnitude of his familys sins really didnt matter; what mattered was how perfect their lamb was! The other thing that really caught my attention was that God provided the lamb; it was up to the family to pick one without spot or blemish. So now read John 1:29, the next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! It is just up to us to pick Him. One of these days you will stand before God he will look at you to see if you have chosen the right Lamb. God made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. C. Young
